Best Case Scenario

Made from reclaimed fleece jackets and sweaters, these felted cases offer your Kindle the same protection from the elements you've come to expect from your favorite coat. Unlike other flimsy, permeable fabric cases, ReFleece cases get their structure and style from a unique method of fabrication created by designer Sam Palmer. Reclaimed jackets and sweaters are washed, cut into squares, and then pressed using a low-energy process that gives the fleece a new look and a new life. These lightweight, fuzzy shells shut tightly to protect delicate touch screens and keys from moisture, dirt, crumbs, and sticky fingers, and an ingenious, built-in cable port allows you to charge up even when the case is closed. Every case is manufactured, sewn, and packaged in the USA from recycled materials that are sourced locally. Water resistant; not waterproof.

Sam Palmer

ReFleece was started by Sam Palmer and Jennifer Feller as a way to combine their passion for sustainability and the outdoors with a love of beautiful, function-driven design. A husband and wife team, they met at Patagonia back in 1995, when they were both folding fleece in the Boston store. Sam went on to help design Patagonia's first surfboard, and later, to design products for industry-leader IDEO. Jennifer moved into the world of science and outdoor education, eventually consulting with some of the country's most innovative education start-ups. Sam designed the first ReFleece cases in the family's basement. He pressed the forms in the oven, and cooled them in the backyard, using the piles of old fleece that still lived in their closets. Jennifer came on board in 2012, inspired by the idea of creating a sustainably-minded small business. ReFleece is part of a new generation of sustainable design, marrying the best of form and function with a deeply held commitment to ecological sustainability and community responsibility. ReFleece products are designed to serve a purpose while satisfying the senses and delighting the user with a bit of whimsy. We hope they bring a smile to their owners, and inspire them to see the old stuff lying around their own homes.

Comments about REFLEECE KINDLE COVER:

It's a really cool idea and I love that I finally found a case that can open and close (not just a sleeve) and somewhat protect my Kindle Fire that is NOT made of leather. I have two minor issues with it: It's not quite as hard as I had expected; it can bend very easily and it not very thick, so I don't have complete confidence in its durability. And the packaging was overkill; it shipped in a box that could have fit about 10 more cases, and there was a lot of paper padding it. It kind of killed the eco-friendly vibe for me. Granted, I can recycle that stuff, but it didn't really need it in the first place. A small chipboard shipping envelope would have been fine. Bottom line - if you're looking for a case that is not made of leather or is environmentally friendly and you're not planning on tossing it around carelessly and just need something to keep it covered when you're not using it, I would recommend it.

These lightweight cases aren't just cute and fuzzy, they also offer serious protection! Would you take your Kindle on the go with a reclaimed fleece cover?

I understand the concept, but the design is not sophisticated or pretty.

Not unique enought

Patagonia is an environmentally conscientious company with an excellent quality product so reclaim that material would in turn make another excellent quality product! It's innovative, practical, made in the USA, Earth friendly, and generally a great sounding product.

This item has potential...1.Price would need to reflect quality2.I can see the roughly cut, exposed edges of the elastic bands that hold the kindle in place3.The felt edges are fraying as I type!!!

We need more products like this! I want to buy good quality, USA made, accessories for my peripherals and I haven't found any that reflect my taste and values as this appears to. It's cool and useful. Please carry it!

Simple design is where it's at (!)these days. I love that it is not flashy and yet remains good looking and hugely functional.

I can't live without my Refleece Kindle cover!!! This feels so good to snuggle into bed with at night, rather than so many of the covers I've seen on the market. It is super high quality, and makes me soooo happy! You will definitely want this product!!

I like the "leather" cover I have.

Neutral - for male or female. Can be dressed up with add ons. Price would be important.

Jessica

Agreed with Case, but also I think it would get cat/dog hair stuck on it VERY easily

I've changed my vote while considering this one (3 no, 2 yes). This one is tough. I need more info to make it into a yes. I like the concept: protect Kindle using recycled products. I know it will be stiffer because of the plastic used...still who doesn't love Patagonia?! Before buying I'd like to read testimonials, see a picture with cable port in use, and a picture with it shut. Would be nice if this came with some way to keep shut when not in use, here's why: the Kindle seems to sit above the rim of the bottom half of the case. Leave this on a table or backpack and it works perfectly. I'm a klutz. I can see dropping it and it opening as it falls screen first on to the floor. If I bought It I'd put a big band around it the band is easy to take off and wrap around a wrist when Kindle is in use but would make sure case stays closed other times.

I was torn on this one. . .I love Patagonia and what it stands for and I liked that it was made of recycled fabric but didn't like how the Kindle was secured. . .it looks as though it would easily fall out.

Vote: Thumbs down!

I really like the idea of this but i think it needs some more work. I like that it is a responsible product, but it is very bland. and which kindles does it work for? Keep working on this idea...it could be amazing

I don't have a kindle. My whole family has either an iPad or a nook.

I like the blue one. The gray looks too cheap

Melissa
Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the simple style, but I'd worry about electrostatic discharge damage to my device. I'm an electrical engineer though so maybe I think too much about this stuff lol.

Jenny

This would make me want to cuddle up with a kindle just like I do with a book!

Would also like a different size for my smaller nook

TinaM

The raw material for these were going landfill. The product is a great example of what people can do with what most deem as unusable". Its looks are hip and urban. You can pair with Timbuktu2 type bag or slide it out of you leather Kate/Jack Spade...and you feel good about it.

Katurah

I purchased something similar on etsy and LOVE it. Keeps my kindle very safe.

Francesca

I like this very much

Lucy

Thumbs up!!!!

Laura

Not my style.

SUSAN

This looks like a great item. I hope they come out with one for the nook. Maybe even have a place to carry the charger.. :). Great look.

Cheryl

I love the fact that it is recycled!! I prefer my lighted cover, however!!

Susan

It's OK, but my Kindle case is not at all flinsy and it has a light!
