Plastic's Got A Brand New Bag.
Hit the beach with this eco-friendly tote that keeps towels, toys, snacks, and sunblock in tow. This summery sack is the result of an initiative to help underprivileged, disadvantaged artisans in India improve their economic and social standing by creating self-sustainable employment following fair trade practices.
The blue, teal, and white colored bands that make up this lightweight bag are created from pre-consumer/post-industrial plastic that is cut into strips and then woven on a handloom to create airy fabric. The interior is lined with a sheer, gauzy cloth with two built-in pockets and its strap is made out of tough, woven canvas. Its magnetic snap closure keeps your cargos secure and sand-free. Each is one-of-a-kind and will vary slightly. Handmade in India.

Summer's on the way and Erin is on the lookout for great beach-friendly products! We love that this tote is handmade by fair trade artisans using recycled plastic. I'd stuff it with sunscreen, a few picks from my summer reading list, some tasty snacks, and a pair of shades. What would you take along in this tote?

Plastic? In the hot sun on the beach? It seems that the bag might have some durability issues if the plastic isn't heat resistant enough.

There are way cuter ones on the market. A bag is not very unique; to be a product for uncommon goods, I'd want to see an "out there" bag, this is not it.

Just because it says "beach" doesn't mean that's what it has to be used for. I would use this for groceries, errands, etc. I like the contrasting stripes.

I'm concerned about plastic "fabric" on a hot beach, I'd need to know that the bag would hold up for more than one summer's use. I do like that it helps artisans gain a sustainable income, but the bag, like the striped bag, is rather blah. I look for more "Wow" from Uncommon Goods, this is just common.

I would buy it if it had a wide, flat bottom (like a picnic basket) and more durable lining. ("Sheer, gauzy cloth" doesn't inspire confidence) As it is, I have too many tote bags.

Plastic "fabric" in the sun would get pretty hot. Also in a beach bag, I like the bag to have a full zipper closure to keep the sand out of my stuff.
