Northern Lights

In the far north, winter can be a dark, cheerless time. But in Denmark, they fight off the gloom by cultivating "hygge" - a cozy, comfortable home environment where family and friends can enjoy being together.

This hurricane lamp embodies that spirit, from its wintery glass exterior to the inviting glow of candlelight within. Its warm light will help create a welcoming atmosphere in your living room or reading nook, or out on the deck as you gather friends under the stars.

The Green Glass Company works in harmony with the earth by using only the most eco-conscious materials and techniques, which will give you a nice warm feeling along with the glow. The glass is made from a recycled glass bottle, with an aluminum tray in the center which holds a tea light candle. Reshaping a bottle consumes much less energy than recycling it would, and the surface is frosted using sandblasting, rather than toxic acid etching. Green Glass Company uses energy primarily from renewable sources, and is a certified EPA Green Power partner. Made in Wisconsin.

Tea light not included.

  • Item ID: 20978
  • Materials: aluminum, recycled glass bottles
  • 13" H x 3" dia.
  • Use tea lights only (not included). Dishwasher safe. To remove wax, soak in warm water.

This Glacier Hurricane Lamp gives us a warm fuzzy feeling (check out the product story to learn more). Could you see this eco-conscious lamp in a cozy corner of your home?

I love it, plus it's made in the US, but how much light does it give off, and would it be safe in an area where children play, and how hot does it get when on?

Lovely for mood lighting!

The color causes it to look a little drab, but in the right space, with the right color scheme, I'm sure it would be a fabulous addition to any room.

I love everything about it.

Thanks for all of your feedback on this lovely lamp! The Glacier Hurricane Lamp uses a tealight candle, so it will give off a warm glow rather than a great deal of light. Since it does use an actual candle, the lamp will get hot.

Love that it's USA made. I enjoy tea light candles and frosted glass.

I think that it is beautiful, but the price point is too high.

Love the recycled and eco-friendly aspects of this, but it's not my style.

The item looks really nice, but the price is just too high.

Really like this. The only drawback is the price. Especially since I think the best way to use this would be to have several clustered together and that would be very expensive!

I know just where I put a few on a cold, snowy night. I'd have to wait until they go on sale to buy them. Why are your products so expensive?

We're glad you love the Glacier Hurricane Lamp, Jan! This product is made from reclaimed materials. Reshaping the glass bottle and sandblasting the surface to create a frosted look takes time and effort, so it's important to take this into consideration when it comes to the estimated price. This product is also made using renewable resources in the USA, which costs a bit more than some other manufacturing methods. Thanks for the question!

I agree with the other comment or question about how much light this hurricane lamp would emit. It seems a bit pricey, just based on the photo and description.

Love the look. Price is too high

Seriously? It looks like a tall skinny milk bottle. I would never buy this.

As others have said, I appreciate everything but the price. I can't see myself spending so much for a "warm glow," even if it is pretty!

Love the look and the story, but it's a tad bit too pricey for me! If it were 15 or 20 dollars it would be a different story, but almost 40 dollars shipping charges is a tad bit too much.

For use in a 'hurricane' or other bad weather (i.e. no power), this is just not going to work. How do you carry this? How do you ensure the 2 parts remain together? It gets hot to the touch - seems unsafe and impractical, never mind the cost.

Awfully expensive for what it is, looks unstable (narrow base plus fire = no thanks!), not very pretty.

Kat
Vote: Thumbs up!

Very pretty and love that it is recycled. I would not buy it for myself since I don't like to use candles, but I know others who would enjoy it. And - YAY - Made in the USA!

I gave it thumbs up because it is beautiful and a wonderful product, but I don't know if I'd pay $38.00 for it.

I like the ingenuity of this piece. I would buy it, but would LOVE it at $25

Helena

I would absolutely buy this! The price is quite good - I hope it becomes avaiable.

Marie

YAYYY, Made in the USA. Cute but priced rather high. Just been through a power outage and don't think this would shed much light or be safe to move.
