Sitting Pretty

Mid-century cool gets warmed up with playful textiles in this exuberant ottoman. The upholstery is a handmade patchwork of colorful, reclaimed materials in a variety of vintage-inspired patterns. Because of the upcycled materials, each one will have its own one-of-a-kind combination. The cushioned base rests on three slender but sturdy wooden legs. The versatile piece can be tucked out of the way or placed prominently to brighten up a room. It offers a spot to rest your feet or stack your books and coffee, and serves as extra seating when company is over. Handmade in Houston, Texas.

Lynne & Julia Schafer

Twin sisters Lynne & Julia Schafer learned to sew at an early age, and are confessed fabric junkies. "We've always had a fondness for patchwork fabric because our mother would make quilts from remnants of the clothes she made us. Piecing small pieces of fabric together to create a larger piece is always exciting because you never know the outcome until the pieces are put together."
