Based in her bright home studio in Charlotte, NC, Ashlee Meadows is a wife and mother to three young girls. The meticulously handcrafted lines of her work belie the warm messiness of real world family life. Since childhood Meadows has had an insatiable need to create with her hands and was able to continue to satisfy that craving by studying ceramics at a University level. The technical knowledge gained while receiving her BFA has been invaluable as she continues to experiment with clay and glaze. When I sit down with a piece of clay in my hands and no direction at all, once I start to play with the clay, something happens. Something is created. It might be an ugly and unsuccessful something, but the act of creating that thing often times leads my mind to an idea that will result in a more successful something. It may take a few rounds of creation before I'm satisfied with the end result, but it's worth all the effort when I open the kiln to find a creation that I'm proud to have made.
