Reach for the stars

"Ad astra per aspera" is Latin for "To the stars through difficulty," and this frosted plate made from recycled glass certainly represents hope in a difficult struggle. For each sale, two dollars are donated to AIDS service organizations in Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force and Persad Center), which provide support and service to people with HIV and to their families and friends. These beautiful platters will add an understated artful touch to your table and also remind you to never lose hope. Gold charger plate shown below stars plate is sold separately. Handcrafted in Pennsylvania, each plate is hand cut from pre-consumer/ post-industrial recycled glass, then color is hand screened onto the glass. The plates are fired and sandblasted for texture. Each plate comes with a certificate about the "Plates With Purpose" program.

Mary Irwin-Scott

Since 2005, Plates With Purpose has raised awareness for and donated over $150 thousand dollars to twelve non-profit organizations. Founded by Mary Irwin-Scott, President of the Riverside Design Group, it's a family-oriented company that takes community service very seriously. Irwin-Scott's daughter and Riverside Creative Director, Cassandra Ott, frequently collaborates with her mother and father, as well as Pittsburgh architect, Grant Scott, to design plates for various agencies and causes. Some Riverside beneficiaries have included the AIDS Task Force & Persad Center, Pittsburgh's Habitat for Humanity, and Court Appointed Special Advocates, a volunteer organization that helps abused and neglected children. Artist Judy Smilow also lent her design to benefit the Alzheimer's Association and honor her father after his long struggle with the disease. Each product in the Plates With Purpose line is simple, clean and inspiring, adding a delicate touch to any table and community awareness to the home. collection
