Fur Highness

When your dog enters a room, she's sure to make her presence known-whether she flops in the middle of the room, or into your lap. Your cat knows he deserves the finest food, and pity the subject who tells him that the morsels on the counter are for "people only." And what pet doesn't consider the couch they are absolutely not supposed to jump on their throne?

Patricia Carlin's quirky print genuflects to the pet that rules your roost with a print fit for a king or queen. Using your picture, this print places pampered pooches and kitties at the very center of a glamorous scene to be revered by an adoring public. The addition of a sumptuous, gilded frame really gives this piece the royal treatment.

Patricia Carlin

Patricia started out as an art director in Philadelphia, selling everything from potato chips to financial products. In 2001, a friend wanted help launching a glassware business. Patricia designed several product lines for the new venture.

"We couldn't afford a writer at first, so I wrote my own copy for the glasses," Patricia says.

Despite the August 2001 launch, the business did well, and Patricia found herself designing a range of tabletop products.

When Red Wheel Weiser Conari Press noticed the glassware at a gift show, they saw book potential. With their help, Patricia produced two books: "Glam Girl" and "Geeky Girl".

Patricia has explored many techniques in her illustration, but simple line drawing appeals to her most.

"For me paring things down to their simplest essence is always the best way to understand them," she says. "After I had my daughter I rediscovered the power these little sketches have to tell a story. Drawing was a fun way to communicate without language."

Patricia is inspired by Ikko Tanaka, Adrian Tomine and Diane Arbus. She has won many awards for her design work and is the author of "How to Tell If Your Boyfriend is the Antichrist: And if he is, should you break up with him?"

She comes from a long line of RockStar Moms, and aspires to that status on a daily basis. collection
