To Have and to Hold
Sure, blenders, toasters, baking pans, and bed sheets are great gifts for a new couple, but when you want to present something that really shows how you and all the other invitees feel, nothing quite hits the spot like this personalized piece. David Voorhees' handmade porcelain decorative vase is sure to capture their hearts and hold their attention (and, not to mention, their wedding guests' warmest wishes). The top opening is just large enough to allow guests to slip up to 150 rolled up wishes into this gorgeous vessel.
During their first year of marriage this enchanting piece makes a beautiful home accent, reminding the couple of their special day. And on their first anniversary, as they share a saved slice of their wedding cake, the couple can gush over their guests' best wishes and heartfelt bits of advice. The foot of the vase has been perforated, so with the gentle tap of a wooden spoon these saved strips will come spilling out. Each elegant piece is wheel formed and then hand-decorated with your choice of custom decorations for a one-of-a-kind couple. The precise lettering on each vase is created by glazing a ceramic decal written in your chosen typeface. Handmade in North Carolina.
- Item ID: 22074
- Materials: porcelain
- 10" H x 5" Dia.
- Not intended to hold water.
Comes in a gift box with 3 notepads, instructions, wedding poem penned by David Voorhees, and the vase.
Instructions: At the wedding reception consider placing the vase and poem card near the guest registry with small writing tablets and pens. Encourage your guests' creative participation, knowing that they will help you will recall warm memories of your special wedding time. Consider setting up your vase at bridal showers and other pre-wedding gatherings as well. Make a ceremony out of the vase opening on your first anniversary. To open the vase, invert it on a paperback book, then cover the bottom with a cloth to protect you from shards and tap the center with a wooden spoon. The bottom has been trimmed very thinly and is perforated; with luck only the bottom will drop out. The writings can go in a scrapbook and the vase will become a cherished keepsake for years to come. - Click the “add to cart" button above to enter personalized information.

We love that David Vorhees' Wedding Wish Vase is beautiful, handmade, and unique. Do you wish we'd add it to our assortment?

The vase is lovely, but the price is really high. $60-$80 is much more appropriate.

I do love the idea behind it. Although it is a bit pricey for something you are to destroy after a year. I would rather have the bottome come out like a piggy bank would. that way you can use it as an art piece for years to come.

It is a bit pricey but as long as the vase can stay in good shape after you open it so it can still be displayed I think it's okay.
Cassie, UncommonGoods Community Moderator
Don't worry, Lea, you don't have to smash the vase to get the wishes out. The bottom is perforated, so you can easily tap it out with a wooden spoon. Although the vase isn't watertight, you can keep it on display empty once the wishes are removed, or use it to hold dried flowers.

Too pricey and taste specific for a wedding gift.

I think it is important that gifts look more expensive than they cost. In this case the items costs more than one would expect.

This is a really great idea, beautiful and made in the USA!
Marsha
Beautiful idea for friends & family to express heartfelt wishes for the newlyweds.

As cute and sweet the idea is, I'd be pretty upset if I got this as a wedding gift. I'd rather receive other cool items from uncommongoods.

Love the idea, but I would not want to destroy the vase at the end. If there were a way to remove the notes after 1 year and then be able to use the vase for flowers, I would be more likely to purchase this item.
Cassie, UncommonGoods Community Moderator
Thanks for the feedback, Emily. Although you don't have to smash the vase, you do have to knock the bottom out, so it won't hold water. You can use it for dried flowers after the year is up, or set a small vase filled with water inside of it.

Expensive for an eventually broken vase

Beautiful but the price is not very affordable.

Something that would lose its appeal after the event. Too pricey for what it is.
Laurel
Absolutely beautiful, but too expensive for my budget.
Rachel
Vote: Thumbs down!
Nice idea, but way too expensive. This seems very easy to replicate for much, much less.
Chris
Good idea but not a fan of the flowers, grapes and leaves on the vase(s). need more modern designs
Kathleen
Vote: Thumbs down!
If this were a vase you could use as a vase (or something) I think it would be a great idea. But to pay so much for something that is meant to be broken, well I just can''t see it.

Love the concept, but the price is a bit high. Price it just under $100 and I'd definitely buy it.

I love the idea of opening this on the couple's first anniversary! The perforated bottom is fabulous, since I would hate to wreck the vessel otherwise!

A bit too expected and I wonder if people will actually have this sitting out as decor in their homes. I mean, it is literally dated!

To expensive for my budget. Love the vase

It's pretty.. but I think I'd pay 40-50 max.. you could just get a vase and decorate it yourself for cheap..

I like the idea of something that is personalized but I'm not a fan of the design and now that I have been married 8 years I have so many gifts like this that I don't have enough room for all of them. I like gifts that are a little more functional.

Wow $130? This will maybe be displayed prominently for a year then slowly will find its way into storage "for safe keeping"

I actually love the idea but do not feel the product looks like $130. Maybe if the designs were better. I like the simpler design with the grapes but not the other two. Maybe more contemporary?
Catherine

Could probably be a great keepsake

Love the concept but not in a 10" $130 stoneware vase. Does not carry the cost and do not care for the designs except the grapes. Back the the drawing board but GREAT IDEA!!

Love the idea but its to expensive and the bottom looks to hard to break open. I would fear breaking the whole vase.
Lindsay
Vote: Thumbs up!
I love the vase and already know who i could give that too--but it is a bit pricey especially when you look at shipping costs on top of that. That's what would stop me from buying it
Kathleen
Vote: Thumbs down!
Great idea in theory. In practice, too expensive for a vase that can never hold water. The artwork seems a bit dated as well. I'd go for it at a much lower price or more modern and future-functional piece.
Pam

I think it sounds like a great idea, and gives lots of warm thoughts on the 1st anniversary, as long as the bottom is fool-proof.
Tina
I love this but i also agree that its a bit expensive.

cute, but normally people want a less modern one, and you can get a NICER

This is a great idea, but a little pricey. Also, not everyone is in to floral. Something a little more contemporary would be lovely as well.

Handmade by mold or turned on a wheel, description should say to justify price. Also decals are not my thing, it could be hand lettered instead.

Vote: Thumbs down!
I think it is a sweet idea, but as said by other's too specific as a gift option, way over priced and a bit cheesy. I also think it would be more funtional if it was water tight so you can use it for flowers in the future.

I love the idea, but a much simpler, graphic design should be added to the line up to appeal to a broader audience. Also, the price is a little steep.
Jolana
Vote: Thumbs down!
It's too pricey even if hand made. I like the design, but it's not for everyone. IT'S HARD ENOUGH TO GET PEOPLE TO TAKE PICTURES OR SIGN THE GUEST BOOK AND THEN WHO WOULD HAVE THEM WRITE LITTLE NOTES TOO? Then again, some weddings are boring!
Rubi
Vote: Thumbs down!
Why is the perforated base a selling point? It renders the vase permanently inoperable. Poor design, IMO. Even a child's piggy bank with a rubber stopper is more functional...Nice sentiment but where do all those 'wishes' go once the bottom comes off? Just another dust collector, I'm afraid.

Even though it is designed to have the bottom popped out, I can't think of many who would be willing to risk it...

I am a professional artist, so appreciate the artistic work that went into the piece. So, I don't appreciate that you basically ruin the usefulness of it after a year by breaking the bottom of to take the "wishes" out, especially not for that much money. I mean - you can't use it for flowers even.

This is very pricey. Also, it's not like it's something so rare that not just anybody can do it. Go buy a vase at Hobby Lobby and freakin' paint it yourself! Then it'd only be $15. Sheesh.

For some people this maybe alittle pricey but they don't realize what it takes to create an item like this. I think its a good way of the guests to write something special for the couple.
Nicole

As a potter I know how much time and attention to detail a vase of this quality demands. Considering it's customized the price is justified. Everyone complaining of the price clearly thinks works of art appear out of thin air.
Linda
Vote: Thumbs down!
I like the idea of the wedding guests leaving handwritten notes for the couple, but why not make the container something that can be functional forever?
Mary

Price is too high for friends of the newlyweds, usually young and on a budget. Great gift though.

This item is definitely not worth $130! Poor idea too! I have seen better Wedding gifts for far less. Don't bother selling this item.

I love these. They are beautiful but the cost is way too high. Maybe it is because of the disigner and it makes it more valuable. I would love to have them.

This would be a very specialized market.

Vote: Thumbs down!
This is a great idea and somewhat unique, but the price is too high. I wouldn't pay more than $90 for this, nice as it is. After all, with postage, this would be a semi-costly item. For me, anyway.
Colleen

Nice looking, but doesn't appear functional. That said, too pricey for a dust collector.
Tiana
Vote: Thumbs down!
It's pretty expensive and the dull colors and design remind me of an Italian restaurant chain's decor.
Elizabeth
I just love this. For a handmade object, $130 sounds reasonable. This would be something to keep and cherish forever!
Laura
This was the most perfect wedding gift I received! A year on, the messages made us laugh and cry and really captured the spirit of our wedding day in a way that photos or a more formal guest book cannot do. I've since given many as wedding gifts. Truly worth every penny!
Daphne
No;too corny!
Dee
This is a beautiful vase. As a potter, I would leave the bottom open and cork it (so it can continue to hold the "wishes" even after they're read), but for hand-thrown, hand-decorated porcelain thhis is a very good price.
