penny earrings with personalized yearby Beatrice Matiash
- the story
Change for the Better
Change is a beautiful thing. Especially when that change comes in the form of these penny earrings. Designer Beatrice Matiash uses actual pennies, which she gold plates for an extra shine, and to protect against copper sensitivities. Each of the pennies can be custom selected with a date of your choice—celebrate the birth of your children, milestones in your career, or simply the luckiest moments in your life. Handmade in New Jersey.
Due to rarity, pennies issued before 1965 will incur a $5 surcharge each.
Unfortunately, this item cannot ship outside of the United States at this time.

Designer Beatrice Matiash is motivated by unconventional sources of inspiration. "I am in part a collector," she said. "Everywhere I go, I feel drawn to the color combination on anything from a flyer to a tea set, and to the history of things like a twig or a penny. I collect all these things that influence my jewelry designs." She fondly recalls collecting pennies as a child and immediately checking the year so she could dream up a story about the owner who dropped it.
While managing a trend-driven jewelry boutique and apprenticing for the head designer, Beatrice earned her B.A. in Fashion Buying and Merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She then joined the Federated Merchandising Group in product development for accessories and simultaneously began to develop her own jewelry design craft. Moving to DKNY as merchandise manager for handbags, she gained insight into the accessories business essential to starting her own company.
In the spring of 2000, Beatrice launched Tashka by Beatrice with a small collection sold in local neighborhood boutiques. Her offerings now include five jewelry groups available nationwide. collection
