Born and raised in California, self taught fabric artist, Michelle Lyon, relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina seven years ago. After 15 years as a pastry chef, Michelle decided to try something different and turned her love of crafting into a business. Inspired by the textures and colors of vintage textiles, she began to make and sell Peculiar Pets.
All of the pets are made using the salvageable parts of damaged vintage bedspreads and stuffed with poly-fill that is 80% recycled plastic water bottles. Because of the various textures of the fabrics and the hand embellishment, no two pets can be exactly alike.
Her love of all things culinary can be seen through out the line, as the pets often sport what they may have eaten on their tummies.
All of the pets are made on Michelle's mother's 1959 Singer sewing machine and hand embellished by Michelle herself. As a life long closet cartoon chronicler, it is a great joy and relief for Michelle to bring her drawings to life in the form of Peculiar Pets.
