Deborah Bushinski has been designing and creating birch jewelry for over 30 years. All of the current techniques that she uses have been developed by her during this time.In the beginning the jewelry was an extension of the painting she was doing, and her contribution to fashion, an area that always held Deborah's interest. During her years as a fine art studio painter and art wear clothing designer living in the Northern Minnesota woodlands, she spent time in the wild studying natural form. From there her design sensibility was honed. It is all about texture, color and composition; as each piece of jewelry is crafted with the immediacy of putting paint on canvas.
Birch Bark Baubles
Add a piece of nature’s own sublime beauty to your ensemble with Deborah Bushinskis jewelry. Her pieces celebrate nature in a unique way: by framing found compositions literally drawn from the forest. Utilizing birch bark salvaged from the forestry industry in Northern Minnesota, she finds small vignettes of breathtaking beauty, wraps them in sterling silver wire, and suspends them from sterling silver ear wire. Bushinski selectively exposes layers of the bark, displaying its full range of gray-flecked white and cinnamon brown, accented by the mossy greens of the lichen. This manipulated natural palette of colors and textures forms a delightful abstract landscape in miniature, complemented by the cool sheen of hand-hammered silver. Makes a uniquely organic accessory for a wide range of styles—from casually woodsy to sophisticatedly modern. Handmade in Minnetonka, MN.
