The Face of Wisdom

In ancient Rome, Minerva was the goddess equivalent of the modern women: she presided over both poetry and commerce, medicine and magic. She had the power to do anything she set her mind to—coupled with the wisdom to keep it all in balance.

Mary Steratore's divine necklace celebrates a woman's brilliance. The sculptural silver pendant features Minerva's constant companion, a wise, moon-faced owl. It's paired with a small square charm of iolite—a stone traditionally associated with opening the creative vision of the mind. The stone is hand cut and mounted in silver. Steratore's necklaces are truly global creations: the molds are made in Italy, the silver charms are cast in Thailand, the semi-precious stone charms are made in India, and the silver ball chain is made in USA.

Mary Steratore

It can be quite daunting trading one career for another, especially when there are PhDs involved. But for Mary Steratore, such a change led to the realization of true artistic expression. Leaving archaeology to create her own fine art, Steratore settled in Rome where her paintings and sculptures were well-received. After showing her work throughout Italy and the US, she developed b.u., a new line of jewelry inspired by her sculpting.
