Head of the Pack

Jules Gissler has always loved the curlicue. To her, the springy gesture is full of pure joy. She sealed her love for this emphatic flourish the first time she used it, as a decoration on an envelope that made the address "smile." Soon it multiplied and danced its way into every piece of the artist's work. They sprang from flowers, curled into mustaches, and even bounced straight into her signature.

Jules' trademark curlicues boing around in the background behind Milicent, the red-headed hound, who peers upon her outrageous head dressing, pronouncing to herself that "boingy things are indeed the best part of her sunhat." The quirky scenarios depicted in all of Jules' prints are inspired equally by her imaginative daughter and her rescue dog, Harper. This precocious pooch makes an ideal companion for pup lovers, spunky youngsters, and those with an appetite for cheekiness.

Jules Gissler

Jules Gissler grew up in the Big Sky country of Montana. She received a degree in Graphic Design from Montana State University in Bozeman. For the past 25 years she has stretched her creativity in many directions. Her hand-painted pillows with beads and conversational charms were sold in retail stores such as Barneys New York, Ballard Designs catalog, ABC Carpet & Home-New York, and The American Craft Museum. One of her pillow designs also became a hand-painted canvas doll named the Baby Angel, which celebrates individuality. She has also designed wardrobe for a blues singer, William Bell, and taught art to children. Jules has lived in several cities, but Phoenix, Arizona, has been her home the past 13 years. She continues to be inspired by her daughter, her rescue dog, Harper, and her eclectic group of very cool pals. See all creations.
