Travel Light

Architecture students Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta were challenged to bring some much-needed light to the tent cities of earthquake-striken Haiti. What they developed was this versatile, low-impact lantern, which is both essential gear in an emergency and a handy tool for camping and outdoor recreation. The lamp's powerful LED light source can shine for up to 8 hours (on the low setting), powered by 4-5 hours of direct sunlight on its integrated solar panel. The durable, waterproof, flexible plastic shell has a handle for carrying or hanging, and can be inflated while in use, which helps to diffuse light around a space. It even floats, making it ideal for boating or river expeditions. All components are lead-free. Made in China.

Unfortunately, this item cannot ship outside of the United States at this time.

Used this for camping--never could find the right light to illuminate the tent at night and this does the job! I plan on ordering a second one to keep in the car for the winter. A gadget that's really useful!

Saw creators on CNN and wanted to support their efforts as well as add the light to our hurricane preparedness kit. Have shown it to many and all agree it is clever and very efficient as a waterproof light source. Wonderful product!

The LuminAide is an easy way to keep a little light at your side. Would you take one camping keep a few on hand in case of emergency?

I have a few of these and they work great, and are so handy. I never need to worry about batteries. I use them for reading during summer nights while stretched out in my Love At First Swing hammock from UncommonGoods!

I think it is a smart way to bring light in the aftermath of a disaster where there is no power. My concern would be that if it was inflated, would if float or be blown away?

      Make it in the US.

I do like the idea and the product. However, I have to agree with the folks who say it should be made in the USA.

While I feel the product could be useful, it is not something I expect to see in an Uncommon Goods catalog. The fact that it is made in China, doesn't add up to what I expect from Uncommon goods. I agree with others who say it should be made here.

This would be an amazing gadget for folks in shore towns. Cool, waterproof technology that will work on boats and if the power goes out is a great thing. Items that will also work on jetskis and by the lounge chair are added bonuses. This is different and I applaud the support of some very helpful people, even if made in China.

Great idea and I wish it were made in the USA. This product would be great for the American Red Cross and other disaster responders to have in bulk-for use all over the world

good idea but I try not to buy stuff made in China. Usually poor quality.

I agree with the others - it's a fantastic idea for a good cause and I have a lot of respect for that but it doesn't belong in this forum and it should be made in the USA

Would it be possible to buy and have Uncommon Goods donate the purchase?

      Cassie, UncommonGoods

Interesting idea, D. We do currently donate one dollar to a not-profit partner for every customer who participates in our Better to Give program, but we don't have specific plans for donating dollars or products with the sale of this item. We'll pass the suggestion along to our sustainability team. Thanks for asking!

Great idea, but wish it was made somewhere other than China. Doesn't give me confidence in the quality of the product and makes me unsure of what is used to make the plastic
