love cymbal earringsby Wesla Bay Weller
- the story
Wesla Bay Weller takes an upbeat approach to recycling by using discarded and broken drum cymbals and guitar strings to create one-of-a-kind pieces with heart.
To Wesla, musical instruments have more than one story to tell the world: Craftspeople shaped the instruments; musicians dreamed with them; and listeners cherished those dreams.
The hearts are made from repurposed broken cymbals, made of a bronze alloy of copper and tin. The circular surrounds are made of a wound recycled guitar string made out of a combination of nickel and steel. The ear wires are made of gold plated brass. Each piece will differ to some small degree due to using found, recycled materials and the handmade process. Handcrafted in Los Angeles.

- The cymbal and guitar string are sealed with a coat of Renaissance Wax, which protects the metals from moisture and oxygen, to help prevent tarnish. Polish gently with a soft cloth. Keep away from excessive moisture. Some darkening of color of the cymbal and brass wire will occur naturally over time. Gently wipe ear wires with rubbing alcohol as needed as an anti-bacterial.

Wesla Bay Weller
Captivated by the process of creating jewelry, Wesla Bay Weller came to jewelry design after she took a metalsmithing class for fun. A graphic designer and illustrator by trade, Wesla studied illustration at Parsons School of Design and earned a BFA in graphic design at Cooper Union in New York.
Wanting to work with recycled materials, she hit upon the idea of using discarded and broken parts from musical instruments. The Upbeat Jewellery collection combines recycled and repurposed musical instrument materials with Wesla's love for music, narrative and craftsmanship to make playful, wearable art. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her partner.Wanting to work with recycled materials, she hit upon the idea of using discarded and broken parts from musical instruments.
