Lucie Piedra and Meg Oliver first met as resident artists at the Byrdcliffe Artist Colony in Woodstock, NY in 2001. Ten years later, the friends reunited to co-found a storefront studio in Catskill, NY. The new line of work created through this collaborative effort is entirely new, and very different from what either artist had been making on their own.
Birds in the Hand
These pretty porcelain lovebirds were ergonomically designed to be used as distinctive drinking cups—the larger cup for coffee, and the smaller one for tea. Within the abstracted dove-like form, the tail is curved to accommodate the shape of your hand, while the openings are subtly shaped to fit your mouth. The tail remains cool even when the cup is filled with boiling water. The size difference between the two cups suggests a "his & hers" set, but they're a fun, functional design for any kind of couple. Makes a great gift for a wedding or anniversary. Handmade in Catskill, NY by Lucie Piedra and Meg Oliver.
