In the eyes of jewelry designer Ronni Kappos, German glass beads manufactured meticulously prior to World War II possess a quality unmatched by contemporary makers. The artist's tremendous devotion to these vintage remnants, their history, and their striking, saturated shades, informs all of her daring, geometric compositions, such as this lotus-inspired necklace. In this limited edition multi-colored piece, the black, brown, and icy-blue beads represent delicate lotus petals punctuated by stamens tipped with deep, saffron-colored beads. Ronni treasures the characteristic variations in the beads' color and shape, and as a result, each one-of-a-kind wearable sculpture is limited to just a few iterations. Handmade in California.

Ronni Kappos

Ronni Kappos grew up in Los Angeles with her identical twin sister. She studied Art History at the UC Santa Cruz and then started making her own jewelry. She first fell in love with vintage beads when she picked up a few of them at a local bead store. Over the next few years, she amassed a vast collection of beads by fastidiously tracking sources and researching the many types of glass. Ronni has been working full time on her line since September 2002.

Ronni's singular approach to design stems from a commitment to her materials; German beads from the early part of the century yielded elegant, simple shapes in a rich palette of colors that are not available in contemporary beads. Ronni brings endless variation to these beads, developing hundreds of styles ranging from austere and minimal pieces to ornate, elaborate constructions.
