Sweetly Refreshing
When life gives lemons to artist Melanie Mckenney, she doesn't make lemonade - she makes adorable little citrus bud vases!
She uses an actual lemon and lime to create these stoneware bud vases, squeezing out every detail of lifelike texture and shape. Each is finished with bright, non-toxic glazes. Use them to display a sprig of herbs or a fresh-picked wild flower, and they're sure to add a special zest to your kitchen counter. Handmade in Tonawanda, New York.
Due to handmade nature of the product, each is one-of-a-kind and will vary.
- Item ID: 21091
- Materials: earthenware
- Lemon: 2.25" H x 3" dia., Lime: 1.5" H x 2" dia.
- Items are dishwasher safe but not recommended for microwave use.
Melanie Mckenney
Melanie Mckenney originally hails from Buffalo, NY. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from nearby Alfred University in 2006, but continued her training through numerous workshops, including study at the Studio Arts Centers International in Florence, Italy. Melanie helped to run a non-profit ceramics program in Lexington, MA, before returning to Buffalo, where she lives with her husband, daughter, and two dogs.
Melanie finds the inspiration for her functional pottery in nature, and believes that capturing those natural forms in clay evokes a new appreciation for everyday objects. Often taken for granted, fruits and vegetables display a rich variety of shapes, colors, and textures. By casting directly from the actual fruit or vegetable, Melanie is able to capture these in detail. Her line of Vegetabowlsc has been in production since 2010, and she hopes to promote local farming, healthy eating, and an appreciation for handmade housewares. See

Melanie Mckenney'a designs may look like sour fruit, but we think they're extra sweet! Would you display your favorite flower in a ceramic lemon or lime?

I think they're really cute but judging by the picture the lime seems like it is more realistic than the lemon.

Really cute! Very realistic, though I hope the price is for the set, not each, otherwise- yikes!

Thanks for the feedback, Amy! The estimated price is for the set, which includes one lemon and one lime.

Super cute and priced great as a set for handmade pottery. I don't know is it is due to the photo washing out the color, but the lime seems more detailed then the lemon.

It's kind of fun, but I can do the same with a real lemon or lime for 50 cents.

These are really cute and remind me of my childhood in the Bay Area, California, where we had two lemon "bushes" in our yard. They are fun, attractive, and would brighten up a dull space in the kitchen. I also think they'd make an adorable gift!

The appear to be nice but unless you have a very specific space for it - I wouldn't waste $38

too much $ for two blobs that are supposed to look like lemon/limes. could see if they were really realistic looking. for $5 could buy a fake lemon/lime at craft store that looks great and drill a hole in them.

Yes, they are really cute, but I think $38 is too pricey. How about $25 instead?

I think these are cute, but almost $40 cute? I wouldn't buy at that price. The picture of the flower bud in the lime did not attract me either, but in reading the description, I did like the idea of putting herb sprigs in them. Maybe a product picture of that would be more enticing?

I really like the concept, but they're awfully small- not practical for more than one or two small flowers. If they were larger, they would be more versatile (and it would be easier to justify the price!).

Cute but takes away from the beauty of the flower. No thanks!
Summer
These are so original and cute! I would love to see a gerbera daisy in these.
Summer
So realistic looking. I would love to put these on my vintage farm table on display with whispy white flowers coming out. My husband and I had a lemon and lime themed wedding. These would have made fantastic centerpieces.

As much as I hate to dump on pottery this is just bad. They are two small lumps with a hole poked in them. And a small hole at that. If I am going to display flowers it would not be a single bud but a boquet, or at least something bigger then that. Not worth the money.
