Knock On Wood!

Knock knock.
Who's there?
Ring.
Ring who?
Give me a ring when you need to knock on wood!

Artist Pat Kim was riding the New York subway recently when he needed to knock on wood--but to his disappointment, found only "wood" veneer paneling and particle board in sight. Inspired and in need of an in-a-pinch solution, Kim designed this charming jinx-breaker as a wearable talisman to ward off ill will and misfortune with its teeny, tiny knocker. With its darling design and nautical feel, you can wear this piece anyplace, anytime, without letting on to your little secret. Handmade of solid walnut finished with linseed oil and beeswax with a brass knocker in New York.

I'm torn on this one. I like the idea, but I'm not sure I like the style.

They look a bit bulky so not for a woman. Not sure a guy would wear one either.

    Sanriobaby
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I appriciate the quality but this ring seems very masculine. I'd also be concerned about the praticality of wearing a wood ring. This isn't waterproofed, how many men would remove this ring each and every time they needed to wash thier hands?

    Caitlin
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    I def want one!

    Michelle
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Price is a little high, but they're cute and clever

    Lisalee
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Looks too bulky to be comfortable on adjacent fingers. Great idea, though. I think the finish is pretty waterproof but it should probably say so in the blurb.

    Mallory
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Interesting idea, though it is pricey.

    Jessica
    Vote: Thumbs down!

very nice, but too expensive....and how sturdy is it?

    Alice
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute, but masculine, might do better as a necklace. The wearer would need to remove every time they washed their hands

    Amary
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Super cute! To spendy for me, though...

    Jen
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Ugly

    Katy
    Vote: Thumbs down!

These are just unattractive. Don't like the brown or the gold/brass.

    Kathy
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Too chunky for a ring. Would be better as a bracelet.

    Amber
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I don't find these attractive at all, and the price is quite high. I would never have gotten the concept of it without reading the write-up.

    Vicky
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Strike out on this one

    ASHLEY
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I adore chunky rings, but this one is just ... off. And the price? Um, no.

    stacie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

it's not what i would call an impulse selection at that price

    Lana
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Amusing anecdote but completely useless piece. Way too much for something so abstract.

    Shelley
    Vote: Thumbs down!

This is a very original idea, and the wood ring is beautiful. I'm worried the gold knocker would catch on something and come off. It also seems expensive for a novelty. How often does one use the expression "knock on wood?" Not sure it's frequent enough to warrant the purchase of a $75 ring.

    Yolanda
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Price is too high.

    Tara
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I respect the craftsmanship on here that probably justifies the price on this. But, while I like it, I don't like it enough to spend $75 on it.

    Diana

I like the idea but I don't know that I would wear it..maybe a bracelet would have been better

    MELISSA
    Vote: Thumbs down!

love the idea of the play on words but something about the execution just doesn't work. the look is much cheaper than the price

    Meagan
    Vote: Thumbs down!

very cute, but the price is WAAAyyYYyy too high. I would totally wear it.

    divamama
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Needs variety of designs. Looks like a mans ring only. But unique idea!

    Dawn
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I love the shape and the wood, just can't get over the knocker design. It's too uptight.

    Ginger
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I hope this is repurposed wood.

    Heather
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Might like it more without the door knocker on it. I like the concept of wearing the wood as a jinx breaker though.

    jodi
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    cute idea...I wouldn't wear it....too bulky...too expensive....plus it doesn't look waterproofed

    Luann
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Looks uncomfortable to wear.

    vanessa
    Vote: Thumbs down!

cute idea but not something I'd wear

    Bonnie

    Cute, just not for me.

If you do not have anything else to do with your money -and have poor taste - to for them!!!!

    emmallyea

yes, knock wood! ok I get it, clever

    savannah
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    not girl enough...

    Bonita
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Do not seem practical at all..what if it gets hit against something hard...what if it gets wet? Expensive for a piece of wood and metal.

    Cristine
    Vote: Thumbs up!

The idea is hilarious! I just find them expensive. I would not wear them.

    Megan
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    lame!

    Cindy

Remarkably clever, but I'd need to see it on someone's hand to really judge. It looks like something that would be hard to wear.

    Lauren E.
    Vote: Thumbs down!

cute after reading the writeup but no one is going to recognize what this is supposed to be

    yvette
    Vote: Thumbs up!

these are super cute but I agree that they are too pricey!

    Katharine
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Actually my thumb is halfway, neither really up or down. It is, of course, pretty much a masculine item, because few women would be able to manage the bulk on their fingers. The price is too high for something that appears to be less than durable. Knock the price down and you may get some buyers.

    krystal
    Vote: Thumbs up!

I would prefer a slightly thinner version with a silver "knocker" option. Care and warnings should be listed in description.

    bobbie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    isn't very attractive

    Tina Marie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

It appears to be bulky and I wonder how long it would hold up before breaking.

    NM
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Super cute - would be even better if it were reclaimed wood/

    Darcy
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute concept overall, but would someone actually wear it?

    Amanda
    Vote: Thumbs down!

"knock on wood" is not a serious saying... and this ring is just not stylish in any way-wood-gold-pointed....

    Jessica
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    cute idea, but expensive.

    Alicia
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    cute but too expensive!

    Mary
    Vote: Thumbs down!

The wooden ring freaks me out (splinters, cracking, etc). The idea is cool, but would maybe work better as a necklace.

    Heather
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I worry that the knocker would clang against itself as the wearer moved his or her hand.I also agree that water resistance of the wood is a concern.I like the general idea, though, and I would love to see this as a bracelet or, better yet, as a necklace.

    Adriana
    Vote: Thumbs up!

i have bought similar ones at half that price...

    Margaret
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Frankly not good looking and looks very uncomfortable.

    Anita
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Different however not my style and a bit pricey!

    Kathleen
    Vote: Thumbs up!

I am torn too. I need to see it modeled on a woman's hand to be completely sold.I wish instead of a thumb's up or thumb's down, we had a so-so option.

    Sherry
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    cute idea.

    Brandi
    Vote: Thumbs down!

This is a unique idea, but it's not necessarily going to be attractive to wear and is pretty pricey.

    thomas

    Uncool.

    Melodi
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Cuet idea but not cute design!

    anna
    Vote: Thumbs down!

For wood veneer and particle board this is waaaay overpriced. cute idea if it was handcarved wood for $40.

    firefly
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Great idea not sure about the design

    Kendra
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the concept, the actual product isn't feminine at all, and the talisman looks somewhat out of place. It is also somewhat pricey.

    Janet
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Whaaaat?

    Kimberly
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I would like it much better without the door knocker-- as in just the wood ring.

    Vonette
    Vote: Thumbs down!

see this is what Im referring to, what is the purpose of these rings???

    Fran
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    too clunky

Cool concept. Don't like the look and too expensive.

    Valerie

Great idea, but a little on the expensive side.

    Keisha
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Different but too expensive.

    MB
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Without the side detail it would be cool. I think just a wooden ring would be much nicer...

    Kathleen
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Too pricey for a gag-like item.

    madeline
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    not for me

    Alison
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute idea but they seem chunky, maybe a different picture would be a more accurate represntation?

    Renee
    Vote: Thumbs up!

i would wear it....very cute and unique. i love funky odd stuff!

    Jody
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute idea, needs a little work before it's ready for Uncommongoods. Bulky, too pricey, this could be a winner with a little more polishing (no pun intended).

    Jane
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Don't like the style

    Susannah
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the idea of wooden rings, but I don't like the door knocker on them. They are very masculine and it would be nice to have feminine designs. How would the wood stand up to water while washing hands? That is something to consider! I do like brown and gold, but these just aren't my style.

    Mariah
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Nice idea, but wood (of any kind) is highly likely to break.

    Carol
    Vote: Thumbs up!

I like it, but it is pricey.

    Emily
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I love the idea and I think it's adorable, but the price is quite steep

    Andrea
    Vote: Thumbs down!

This is a good concept, but I think it would look a lot better in a larger scale such as a bracelet.

    Melissa
    Vote: Thumbs down!

The brass knocked makes it too kitchy.

    Christine
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Interesting!

    Janet
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Ridiculous!

    Angie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    I just don't get it.

    Stacey
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Neat concept but doesn't look practical. I wonder about the waterproof-ness of this item.

    Robbie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Lame.

    Justine
    Vote: Thumbs up!

the price is definitely too high but i like the idea

    Adam
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Love the concept...wish it was a little less bulky and expensive.

    bonnie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    looks awkward to wear

    Emma

Should show rings on a hand for scale, especially these as they are hard to gauge. Not enough info to vote.

    Michelle
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Love the concept but a bit pricey.

    Irene

I can't see myself wearing a wooden ring. It looks like a concept that would work better for another type of jewelry than a ring. And I agree it is too masculine looking for a woman, but I can't see a man wearing one either! I wouldn't buy it!

    vickie

    ugly

    william
    Vote: Thumbs up!

very cool. But come on I'm all for helping with the recession. $75 for cleverness is too high. I'm not cheap either. If I think its worth it I'll pay the going rate but this is $30 tops. sorry

    Cynthia
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    love them but not price

    Asiyah
    Vote: Thumbs down!

If I had man hands, I would buy this. Since I don't, I give this a thumbs down.

    Vivian
    Vote: Thumbs up!

These rings are great! Very stylish and they look thin enough to wear comfortably. I am a woman and I've worn wooden rings, and they do not look masculine! (Unless you have man-hands to begin with). This is a great idea, but I do agree with others, it's overpriced.

    megan
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Cool idea. Maybe not for rings. Maybe bracelets would be more successful.

    mary

great idea but I don't like the style

    amy
    Vote: Thumbs up!

i like the idea - i would be afraid the wood would split and it is a bit pricey at $75.

    Flo
    Vote: Thumbs up!

I wouldn't wear this ring. Not my style but I think it is something perfect for Uncommon Goods.

    Eileen
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Really?

    Lily
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Can't see wearing it and it's WAY too expensive.

    Laura
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Price is not right. But still a great gift if you've got the money.

    cherie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

This would be a great idea for a pendant, but don't think it would be a comfortable ring to wear.

    Kara
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Really cute idea, a lot of money for wood and brass.

    Jennifer
    Vote: Thumbs up!

The craftmanship looks beautiful! I love wood working and would never considering making a piece like this.I hate sounding cheesey but a picture of someone wearing the ring would have been nice. We don't know how bulky it is, can't really tell how high it would sit, etc. Also, I am curious how the knocker is adhered to the wood... and if the ring itself is waterproof

    Jesi
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Are these for men or women?

    Rachelle
    Vote: Thumbs up!

I think the idea is great. I always "knock on wood" and it would be a great gift for superstitious people like me!

    Diane
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Idea is OK, but styling is ugly.

    claire
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Like the wood. Not a big fan of the door knocker. I'd like it better with a simple metal inlay though obviously you wouldn't have benefit of the pun any longer.

    Jeannie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

like the idea, but it is too expensive

    Beth
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Really like the idea/concept though

    Melanie
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Needed a smaller version, more likely to be worn by a woman.

    Kathleen
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Sorry, but I find these rings unattractive including the price.

    Kelleigh
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the concept/idea of this ring but I'm not a fan of the design.

I REALLY LOVE this ring!!! However, I feel that the price is way to high. I would purchase this ring in a sscond for $35 or right around there.I REALLLY hope you can get this ring in your store.

looks bulky and uncomfortable. not very nice looking, either.

    Rachael

See previous comments on jewelry pricing, but I also don't think these rings are in any way attractive.

    Maria
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Way too chunky for a woman to wear.

    Lauren
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I would definitely buy this ring if it were a 3rd of the price max, but I would say there is a real market for the bulkier ring

    Denise
    Vote: Thumbs up!

I like the idea but would prefer silver.

    Sara
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Like the idea, but the execution is cheesy and cheap looking.

    Tamara
    Vote: Thumbs up!

I would wear this, but think it would be more successful as a bracelet. Kind of bulky for a ring.

    Peggy
    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Renee

Clever idea, but I'm not sure if the knocker would pinch or rub your fingers.

    Gina
    Vote: Thumbs down!

not attractive at all... and i know i was my hands a zillion times a day- this would either warp or need to removed/put on over and over... no way.

I am not sure how to vote on this one. I think it is a clever design but I am not sure it would sell.

So what is the purpose of this

    sam
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I don't trust that this ring will last...i bet you get it wet after washing your hands a few times...then bump your hands on something and the $75 ring breaks.

    Ruth
    Vote: Thumbs up!

At first I was kind of "Meh" but I love the idea. Could be a bit prettier and/or a bit cheaper but I love the idea.

    Rebecca
    Vote: Thumbs down!

sorry...but I don't find these to be attractive.

i like the idea of this piece, but you're not actually knocking on wood. the knocker is hitting itself rather than the wooden ring.

    naomi
    Vote: Thumbs down!

Agree with Shannon, great concept. Not keen on the design.

    Billie-Jo
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Very cute! I agree - maybe a little bulky. And I might be concerned with the abuse my jewelry tends to endure.

    Xena
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the idea but the execution is poor. Too clunky and looks like it would give you splinters. Also too expensive for a novelty item.

    Stephanie
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Very clever and cute. I would wear as a thumb ring. A little on the expensive side though. I like that it is very unique.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Not attractive.at all.

    Heather
    Vote: Thumbs down!

O worry that it would break after a while and wonder just how resistant to water it is. I also looks to bulky to comfortable to the fingers on the opposite sides of it. Even if it were worn on the index finger.

    Jill
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Very unique. Like a lot.

    Mariana
    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Bonnie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

looks too clunky -- not obvious it's solid walnut

    Katie
    Vote: Thumbs down!

It has all been said. Bulky, masculine, and slightly tacky. I like wood rings but I don't want a tiny, brass door knocker on one.

    Kathy
    Vote: Thumbs up!

could be cool but i would like to see how big it actually is. some people have tiny fingers.

    Jacquelyn
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I would never pay 75$ for that

    Pamela
    Vote: Thumbs up!

An elegant way to use readily available material. I like the secret behind this as well. I just wish the price was a bit less (i.e.: closer to the $50 price range).I agree with other posters, this is quite a masculine looking ring, and it would only suit a handful of women (no pun intended). It's a nice idea though.

    Meredith

    Deanna
    Vote: Thumbs up!

Love it--but I would have to think hard before buying it at that price.

    Kathy
    Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the concept. The beeswax and linseed oil would help to make them water resistant. My concern is with the attachment of the doorknocker. I also think the design would be better if the doorknocker were in a vertical position.

The idea is good, but it doesn't seem practical for wear. A cheaper verson as a novelty would be something I would buy. A wooden ring doesn't even sound comfortable for all day wear.

    Julie

This is very cool, and looks like it is well-made of quality products, by a skilled craftsman. I think it is the type of unique craft that may appeal to a diverse group of people.

I agree with the others...not very feminine for a woman to wear...and waaaaaaay too expensive for a small ring of carved wood. Make it $10-$15.

Based on the picture alone, this deserves a thumbs down. But the story makes this bracelet. It's a cute idea, and great for those of us who are superstitious. It'll also make for a great conversation piece, should you decide to share "the little secret" behind it with others. I think the artist should incorporate different style knockers to add variety and the option of individual style to this line.
