All For One

San Francisco-based artist Vanessa Gade turns the interplay of pendant and chain into a dynamic sculptural statement. Inspired by her city's inherent dualism, marked by its powerful feats of engineering (like the Golden Gate Bridge) and its peaceful Southern Californian shorelines, Vanessa captures this rich and varied landscape in the motion and tension of her bold, kinetic pieces.

In this particular necklace, Vanessa was compelled to utilize the strong shape of the circle in a way that she had never seen before. She wanted to create a piece that would be both unique and thought provoking, but that would also celebrate the shape in a clean and uncluttered fashion. Her vision was realized in this striking sterling silver necklace and this pair of earrings, as well as this necklace, in which a circle, articulated in oxidized sterling silver, is interlaced with a crisscrossed net of 14 karat, gold-filled chain that glides fluidly with the wearer's movement. The unique relationship between the negative and positive space in Vanessa's pieces emphasizes their dependency on each other in a romantic and beautiful way, evoking our deep connection and reliance on those who support us. Handmade in San Francisco, California.

Vanessa Gade

It was Vanessa's passion for history and photography that initiated her path to jewelry design. While studying to become a historian at the University of California, San Diego she volunteered to help construct the new darkroom on campus, directly adjacent to the metalsmithing studio. Fascinated by the tools, stone, and molten metal, she wandered inside and never looked back.
Bold, kinetic and sculptural with an elegant interplay of angles and curves, Vanessa Gade's jewelry makes a contemporary statement balanced with timeless style.
The diverse urban landscape of Sand Francisco provides the ideal creative backdrop for Vanessa's work and can be seen in the architectural qualities of her jewelry designs. The structural nature of her pieces is gracefully countered by a fluidity and movement influenced by her love of the ocean and her youth along the beaches of Southern California.
She describes her work as contemporary, with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic reminiscent of Japanese and Scandinavian design. Particular pieces have been inspired by everything from art deco architecture, ikebana flower arrangements, suspension bridges and even criss crossing power lines. Her designs tend toward an asymmetrical pattern encased within a perfect circle.
She enjoys the challenge of creating a perfectly balanced geometric structure that still maintains an element of movement, all the while utilizing the negative space as an integral part of the design.

We love the unique ways that Vanessa Gade uses the chains of her necklaces to enhance their overall beauty. While the chain in this design doesn't seem as bold as in some, it does have the important job of connecting the outer and inner circles. Check out the product story to learn more, then let us know what you love about this elegant piece.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

I have seen this concept countless times in other places. There is nothing that stands out about it.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

I think it is pretty, but doesn't feel particularly unique.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Cute but not super original

What is so Uncommon i've seen so many necklaces that have the simular look

    Vote: Thumbs down!

No amount of flashy description can make it anything but "two circles stuck together". I've seen similar elsewhere.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Contrasts nicely and looks sharp.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

Chain looks too chunky and a little cheap

    Vote: Thumbs up!

Funny, the most common con others say is that the necklace is unoriginal. Perhaps in other parts of the country? The engineering of this is very different than the standard circle necklace on the market. The simplicity of design and inherent contrasts (color

I like the design, I think the contrasting metals is very nice. This design could also be a very popular gift for expectant mom's (symbolizing child in womb)! Very unique gift.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

The circles are pretty and I like the way the colours complement each other but the chain is not attractive at all.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

Uninteresting in design or choice of materials. Simple, but not elegant.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

I like the simplicity of this product.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Simple and elegant.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

The chain makes it look cheap.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

It's okay. I smiled when I first saw it. I like the delicate chain. Probably like it more on a 24" chain than 18"

    Vote: Thumbs down!

Kinda boring. . .the product story sounds wonderful but I'm not wearing the words. . .

    Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the gold ring but not he oxidized silver one. Shiny silver would have looked better. The chain looks tarnished, although it is not. A silver chain would look much better.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

Design is nice but the chain is not attractive.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

I love the pendant, and the explanation, but don't like the choice of chain. Something smooth, and flat in design...of polished metal, either silver or gold, would continue the feel of the pendant, rather than looking utilitarian.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

not very unique. The chain seems low quality and I could make this piece at home with my own supplies

    Vote: Thumbs up!

Like this, but I have also seen tham done with wedding bands from parents, or loved ones who have passed.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

Beautiful - can't wait to see what the retail will be (surely it'll make the cut!) - very versatile - transitional day to night - casual to night out!

    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Very pretty, and interesting construction.

too common for the site named uncommon goods

    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Not unusual or unique!

    Vote: Thumbs down!

Simple design and a little on the cheesey side.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

Like it a lot, but not original. 18K gold is overkill

    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Looks kind of cheap.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

    Less is more!

    Vote: Thumbs down!

plain and doesn't stand out at all

    Vote: Thumbs up!

I adore the concept and would wear and purchase it.

    Vote: Thumbs down!

    Looks cheap.

    Vote: Thumbs up!

    very pretty

    Vote: Thumbs down!

Too plain. No excitement or beauty.

I know of nothing I own that would go with this.

If you have nothing in your wardrobe that 'goes' with this, what the heck are you wearing? I like it!

Very pretty and simple. I like it!
