Off the Ice

Sit back, relax and count your remaining teeth in this one-of-a-kind rocking chair handmade with reclaimed hockey sticks and unfinished Canadian cedar. Tall, fanned out hockey sticks add an unexpected visual element to the classic rocker. Handmade by Mike Bellino in Massachusetts.

The hockey sticks are treated with a polyurethane finish. Remaining wood is left untreated. Bellino allows wood to undergo a natural finishing process called "checking," which creates naturally-occuring cracks that do not compromise the integrity of the wood. Cover if left outside. Unfinished cedar will patina and weather if left out in the elements, which is the artist's intention. If you prefer to keep the chair as is, treat it with a polyurethane finish or wood stain.

Available in Adult and Child size. Sold separately.

Michael Bellino

Michael Bellino started making SkiChairs back in 1993 after purchasing a house on a lake and building an enormous dock that needed furniture.

Looking for an alternative to plastic patio furniture, he found inspiration in O'Neils Bike and Ski Shop, which he managed. Two weeks and two prototypes later, he created the first SkiChair with his old racing and bump skis. Michael says he's still sitting in that original chair today! See all creations.
