“I like to keep things pretty simple. I focus on warmth, humor, and emotion.”

Patricia Carlin believes that a small sketch has the power to tell a story without language. She started out as an art director in Philadelphia, selling everything from potato chips to financial products. In 2001, a friend wanted help launching a glassware business, so Patricia designed and wrote copy for several products for the new venture. Patricia has explored many techniques in her illustration, but simple line drawing appeals to her most. "For me, paring things down to their simplest essence is always the best way to understand them," she says.

We chatted with Patricia about how she brings her charming illustrations to life (and got a look at her adorable studio cat). Read the Q&A on our blog.

Comments about High Frugality Dish Towels:

I love the design of these towels and the fact that they are made in the Midwest (where we live). I like the unbleached cotton and knew they'd be an off-white as opposed to bleached white. I also really like the feel and texture of the cotton.

I don't like that they are a bit thin for a dish towel and much much larger than a standard dish towel (double the size?). I'm considering cutting them down to normal size or folding them in half and sewing down the seam to double the weight and decrease the size.

Seems to me they should keep the clever screenprint and reprint on smaller, thicker unbleached cotton. Also perhaps maybe make them available individually or sets of 2. It's quite a lot to dish out for a kitchen towel that doesn't quite fit the bill.

Comments about High Frugality Dish Towels:

I haven't had the product that long so I can not speak to it's con's yet. I bought the product for the reusability and catching slogans. I considered not purchasing them due to the high cost. I would have preferred to purchase 1 or 2 for less out of pocket cost rather than a package of 4.

Comments about High Frugality Dish Towels:

These towels are very, very thin cotton and are really large, not the standard size dish towel. The messages were well-received by the environmentally conscious recipient of this gift, but in use, I think they leave a lot to be desired. Also, definately not worth the price.

Comments about High Frugality Dish Towels:

I do a lot of cooking and need heavy duty towels to dry my hands and equipment. I love the eco-friendly messages on these towels and I shared them with friends and relatives who feel the way I do about such things. However, I am a bit disappointed in the heft of the fabric. It is too thin to do much drying. On the up side,in my desert climate at least they dry quickly.
