Drink Like a Fish
Here's a real fish story for you: there's a wide-eyed surprise waiting for you at the bottom of these hand blown glass drinking straws. A grinning little guppy!
Full of bright color and detail, these big-mouthed beauties funnel in the soda or juice as you sip. Made from hand blown borosilicate glass, they are safe to use with both hot and cold beverages. And unlike a regular drinking straw that are often thrown out after one use, these can be enjoyed again and again, instead of flooding our landfills. Simply wash clean with soap and water or give the inside of the tube a little scrub with a pipe cleaner for tougher cleaning jobs. The straws can be washed by hand or dishwasher. With just one sip, everyone will find themselves hooked! Handmade in Colorado.
Exclusively at UncommonGoods.

These durable borosilicate glass straws are a great way to add a splash of fun to your drink. We're fishing for feedback, so tell us what you love about this design!

I love the idea of these straws and the design is really unique and fun. I also love that they are made in the US. And if more people drank out of glass straws, we can eliminate some of the waste from once-used plastic straws. However, I would worry about them breaking, espcially if they fall to hard to the bottom of the glass, or when someone is washing them.

Just wondering if they are durable?
Erin

I like that it is made of pyrex. At first, I was concerned that it would break easily. But as long as it is durable, I think it's adorable!

This doesn't really look like a fish to me. Would it break in the dishwasher?
Miriam
This looks like an incredible hazard. Unfortunate because the look of it is appealing!
Cassie, UncommonGoods Community Moderator
Thanks for the great feedback so far! The straws are made of a special glass that is more durable than regular glass. It doesn't break as easily, is less likely to shatter, and is resistant to temperature changes. The straws can go in the dishwasher, but it's best to give them a little scrub with a pipe cleaner first, since a dishwasher might not get inside the tube well enough to flush out dried material.

How fun! I've never seen anything like these before. Fun for kids, but as an adult, I would enjoy them too. It's great that these are made from glass, making them reusable and free from BPA! Plus they're made in the US....very cool.

It's so creative! This would make drinking plain water lots of fun. But how strong are they? Could they break easily?
Linda
Vote: Thumbs up!
These straws would be a fun and different gift especially for the straw lover amongst your friends/family. (I have one here) I'm not sure I would use it for children as they may break. How durable are they.
Linda

A unique gift for the straw lover. Can you get different colors? How durable are they since children are natural straw lovers!

Cute idea! Great detail on the fish, and a fun and sustainable way to drink with straws! Definitely a fan, would just be concerned about the long term durability.

I know many adults and children that would love this product!!!

Vote: Thumbs down!
I love the look of it, but practically, my daughter would be the one who wants to use it, and would inevitably make a mess blowing bubbles at the dinner table. Wouldn't work for milk or be very appealing in darker liquids or when using ice (would worry more about breakage). That said, it is SUPER cute, but it just wouldn't be practical for what I expect you'd pay for it. I'd admire it in a store and then pass it by.

I think these are cute but I can't imagine ever using one. I would say that they would be suited for kids (looks-wise) but I wouldn't want to give me kid a glass straw to drink out of. Too much of a safety hazard. Really cute though.
Jill

Too easy to break if they clink against the glass. also, how do you wash it if you drink, say, soda with it?
Jacqueline

Definitely an uncommon good. Hopefully they'll be sold in packs of 2+? Or else they may get lonely!

I don't see myself taking a pipe cleaner to clean and reuse.

Vote: Thumbs down!
Although it is made from Pyrex glass, it cannot be all that thick based on the provided picture. As I found out the hard way, Pyrex will break if bumped just right even if it doesn't seem like a hard bump. I would be afraid of it bumping ice or the edge of the glass and cracking, hurting someone.

What a creative straw! These are great substitutes to plastic and people are less likely to throw them away accidentially. The only drawback is how breakable they may be.

I never thought I'd see the day something could replace my reusable plastic straws with pink bunnies all over them!!! These are brilliant!
Elizabeth
Vote: Thumbs up!
I think this is cute and kids would love it, but it would be better off hanging out in an adult's glass where it is likely to break. If you could sell it with a little brush for cleaning, that would be ideal, as I am unsure how I would keep it sparkling clean unless I broke out the pipe cleaners.
Mallory

Cute!! Such a great design, and if it actually bubbles like it does in the picture it would be so much fun for kids. The blue/green one is my favorite. I would be worried about actually using them because they are so nice to look at, so I would only use them during special occasions.
Kat
Vote: Thumbs down!
These are positively adorable but seem impractical. The texture of the fish would be a challenge to keep clean if it was used in anything other than water. I would be more inclined to buy them if they included a pipe cleaner of some sort.

Unique idea... but at first I couldn't tell it was a fish, until I looked at the clear and red one. I would be concerned about the temperature (and possible cracking) of the glass straw with hot beverages and cleaning doesn't seem easy. Guess it's not my cup of tea...

I've never seen anything like these straws! I love them! They are a winner in my book because they are hand blown glass, which is a beautiful art form I don't see that often. I love the creativity behind them and I love that they're fishies! I would probably buy a set and name them all! The only thing I suggest, is I believe a set of 4 would be better - in case of more guests. I would be willing to pay extra.

Thanks for all of the feedback on these fun Fish Straws! Since a few people have mentioned concerns about the glass breaking, we reached out to the artist to get more information about their durability. She explained that since these are made of borocilicate glass (also known as hard glass) they are very durable. Borocilicate glass (Pyrex) is often used for baking dishes. It is extremely resistant to temperature changes and much less likely to break than regular glass. She uses a process called kiln annealing, which also adds to the strength of these straws. Each piece is torched, then kiln-fired at 1200 and slowly cooled. The artist says she's tested this product through use in her own home. Her family uses the straws daily, and they wash them in the dishwasher.

These straws are absolutely precious!! They're very durable and rest nicely in the silverware drawer when not in use. We use them for margaritas and the kids have a blast with them in their juice glasses to blow bubbles! The straws are durable and wash up nicely in the dishwasher! I highly recommend!!

These are by far the cutest straws I've ever seen. I'm an avid straw user, but I hate not having ones worthy of using more than once. These would add some true character to my water glass! One suggestion to the artist (based on so many with concerns about breakage), could a small clear silicone adhesive dot cover the fish's belly to give it a little bump protection when someone tosses it in a glass? Heck, it could even be scale-printed silicone dot to make it really classy! Just a thought. Love these!

glass straws are 1. hard to clean, 2. chip at the top from teeth, and 3.chip at the bottom from clinking on the glass. Otherwise, very cute.
Elaine
This is so clever, and I SO WANT to vote yes, but I can promise you that I'm not going to start washing my straws with pipecleaners, nor would I trust them not to break in the dishwasher even though they're boro. So, they would then become a micro haven for bacteria.... I do love the fish though, so it breaks my heart not to give this a thumbs up! Plus I don't see a price - how much would these sell for?

Great amusant for adul;ts, but not for the kids, borosilicate or not, hard clench between some little monsters teeth and one broken straw later and one ER trip later you will regret the purchase. Cust-ability also highly depednad upon price, like most novelties.

It's not really a quality issue oer se, but as soon as I looked at - I love the look by the way - I thought it would just be too hard to sanitize it after use - even in a dishwasher. I think the shape o the fish on the end would prevent the inside of the straw from being properly cleaned . Too bad ! It's a fun look! I MIGHT consider buying something like that to use upside standing in a plant pot or something - but only at the end of the season when I saw it on closeout sale or something like that.
