hand forged ebb tide candle restby Alexandra Paliwoda $36.00
- the story
Hand forged by Alexandra Paliwoda, this candle rest evokes the reflection of moonlight on the ocean at ebb tide, an organic inspiration that infuses the piece with a tranquil texture. An undulating "beach" with bronze patina forms a miniature land / seascape with the suggestion of yin and yang balance. It's perfect for many sizes of candles (up to 4 inches in diameter), making an attractive centerpiece and versatile tabletop accent. Each piece is stamped on the back with a mountain goat, the artist's shop mark. Handmade in Driggs, Idaho.

Inspired by all things wild and free.
Born in the Rocky Mountains and raised in the backcountry of Alaska, Alexandra Paliwoda expresses her love of wild places with her hand-forged ironwork. True to its name, The Backcountry Blacksmith was forged by Alexandra in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park of Alaska, a truly pristine and wild place. Thus inspired by nature, Alexandra creates functional art for the home using recycled and upcycled steel.
Alexandra began working with metal in year 2000 when she was certified as a farrier by Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana forging horseshoes for various horseshoeing applications. Working with horses and in agriculture, living a subsistence lifestyle in Alaska, building her own cabin in the north country, and tending to explore the road less traveled, Alexandra feels that the important things in life, when the day is done, are the experiences. A few of Alex's many interests include travel, photography, playing guitar, fly fishing, kayaking, skiing, and spending time with those she loves. She makes sure her dog Jasper gets his daily run, and of course, melds metal into art!
"I created lasting products that have minimal waste or carbon footprint in terms of production. Hand-forged ironworks are made from recycled materials. They introduce into one's daily life a reminder of the outside world. I believe that each one of us can help everyday in terms of preserving, protecting and caring for the great outdoors by making the choice to be more responsible at home, at work, really just in our own individual spheres of life." collection
