Rise and Shine

Home, and all the sentiments it represents, is at the heart of Kate Lewis' romantic collection of domestic paintings. Kate greets us with intimate still-life portraits of her own, sunny Victorian home, which she recreates using translucent swaths of vibrant watercolor paint. Her pieces effortlessly capture blissful vignettes of the everyday interactions she and her family have with her home and all of its contents. Through her art, she heightens our awareness of the comforts of our own homes and makes us contemplate the reasons why we find these beloved interiors so inviting.

Breakfast can truly get your day off to a bright start, and Kate's sunlit portrait of the "most important meal of the day" is enough to make anyone a believer. Rather than set a stuffy table, she brings her modest, French-style meal to the living room, where smiling blooms in antique jars make the finest company. Painted in Chicago, Illinois, Printed on acid free paper in Portland, OR.

Kate Lewis

Kate’s translucent layers of paint form large, intimate interior scapes and small still lifes that radiate effortless charm and a free spirit. Known for her thoughtfully choreographed and colorful interiors, her paintings are windows into another world. Her subjects vary in size and content from the large, airy bedroom interior with chandelier to the tiny still life of a settee with a child’s toy. Drawn to thoughtful design and beautifully constructed rooms, Kate devours decorating blogs and magazines to gather imagery for her paintings. Using acrylic and watercolor gives Kate the freedom to use water generously in her work and create delicate layers. This media also allows her to work without reserve in an open studio/playroom where she has her two young children nearby. Influenced by her husband, children, and by rehabbing and decorating their Victorian home, Kate creates warm, inviting, energizing and peaceful paintings. Life at home is at the center of her work.
