Alice Goldsmith

Alice Goldsmith was born and raised in Chicago and has lived and worked in New York City since 1984. Although her formal education trained her as a nurse, her careers with fashion and food prepared her for studio ceramics. Alice learned by trial and error, inspired by ancient ceramics and art seen on her travels. Together, the textured exterior and tranquil interiors she creates on her wares embody a timeless quality.

I was surprised at how small they were. I'm sure the site gave the dimensions but when they came in they really looked small. I had wanted them for the garden and they would be lost there. They will be okay for a potted plant.

I purchased these garden markers as a Mother's Day gift for my mother's herb garden and she absolutely loved them! They are adorable and easy to set up. Our only concern is how fragile they may or may not be, but only time will tell. I am 100% pleased with this purchase!

            Service and delivery comments:

I bought these for a friend, and sadly, a package thief snagged them before she could enjoy! However, Uncommongoods saved the day with their exceptional customer service. They were able to resend a package to her work at no extra cost. I couldn't have been happier! Thank you!

We're big fans of ceramicist (and Uncommon Ceramics Design Challenge judge) Alice Goldsmith's gorgeous bowls, plates, and mugs, so we couldn't wait to see her latest creations. We love that these sassy Garden Markers are handmade in Brooklyn using excess clay removed from her other beautiful pieces. Whats your take on these unique stakes?

I have this artist's "grow damnit" planters and they always get a laugh from my guests!

I'm not a gardener and I don't pretend to be, but if I were, I'd use these. They're adorable!

They are a little pricey, but unique. I like them enough to copy the idea and incorporate it my own way.

$10.00 per tag, a little high on the cost side, bring it down a little and this will be a great seller - everyone has a gardner in the family who would love a set!

Thanks for asking, Michelle! The markers will feature the sayings shown, but they are one-of-a-kind in that no two will be the exact same dimensions or perfect rectangle shapes, and the positioning of the words may vary a bit. Since Alice creates these using the excess clay from her other pottery pieces (and makes each by hand)they are each unique.
