Express Yourself

Face it: Those opened bottles have been with you through a lot-- birthdays, anniversaries, picnics, parties, bridal showers, and romantic dinners. Each of Bruce Palese's charming bottle stoppers capture the spirit of all those merry times in whittled wood.

Each stopper is hand-carved from a twig discovered at Bruce's feet as he and his wife explored around their home in Southern New Jersey. He whittles around his found twig's natural nubs and knotholes until he chances upon the individual personality of each piece. His arboreal sculptures exhibit a range of emotions, such as happy, sad, pensive, and (as a somber nod to the effects of the vino it seals) hungover. Handcrafted by Bruce Palese in Audubon, New Jersey.

Bruce and his wife take walks around the scenic lake near their home in Southern New Jersey. "The lake is surrounded by wonderful trees of various types and sizes. While walking one early summer morning, my eyes were drawn to a particular twig lying on the path. It was similar to the many others that I had walked over on previous walks, but this one seemed to be looking up at me. It had a smaller twig for a nose, a knot hole for a mouth, and a peculiar grain pattern resembling eyes. "
