A Leap in Creativity

Captivated by copper's warm, autumnal color and its malleable qualities, Catherine Murphy and her team have transformed this ubiquitous metal--used to create American's smallest coinage, the penny--into one-of-a-kind artworks. Using a hammer, vise, anvil, and oxy-acetylene torch, they fold, forge, and anneal the copper transforming it into a three-dimensional frog perched on two gorgeously patinated lily pads. To give each hopper personality, each piece is enlivened with eye-catching abstract details, like wide, spiraled eyes and a fly-catching tongue springing from his gaping mouth. This amphibious attraction brings a splash of creativity and artistry wherever he lands. Handmade in North Carolina.

Catherine Murphy

Growing up in a military family, Catherine Murphy spent her childhood traveling around the world and experiencing every locale's characteristic outdoor sites. Eventually, she settled in North Carolina and started a career working with metal and helping to create impressive high-rise construction projects, but Catherine never lost her fascination with the natural world and she longed to fuse her passion for nature with her talent for metalworking. Her outlet for this irresistible desire came in the form of one, especially intriguing metal: copper. See all creations.

We can't help but smile when we look at Catherine Murphy's copper creatures. This little fella is handmade using traditional metalworking techniques, but he has a modern look that will stand out in any garden. What do you love most about this abstract amphibian?

That frog looks scarry. Especially its eyes!If one of the leaves were flat it could be used to set a cup next to a lawn chair. Just change the eyes.

It's ugly and useless.

It needs to be more vibrant, possibly have the frogs in multiple bright colors! :D Other than that and the eyes I see no reason why it wouldn't sell.

I think this is a great item to put in the garden. Hand-made by an American artisan of durable materials that should last a long time. Products made in the US are what we all should be supporting.
