Swing State

Inspired by a return to college after a 20-year hiatus, tattoo artist Matthew Amey's "Jump Off" series encapsulates the artist's personal meditations on the transience of youth and the uncertainty of adulthood.

He explores the implications of these reflective thoughts and feelings with a depiction of the nostalgic sentiment of freedom coupled with stark, gestural strokes and symbolic details. In the enthralling design, a child is suspended mid-swing while a flock of birds circles the tree's branches. The tree represents stability, safety, comfort, excitement, and the all-encompassing love of family, while the birds represent the opportunities and challenges the child will encounter as he or she reaches life's crossroads.

With its strikingly straightforward duality, the piece juxtaposes a child's carefree nature with an adult's projection of the future, using a personal and universal childhood experience as an opportunity for deep expression. Limited edition of 200 sequentially numbered prints made with oil-based inks on Somerset textured paper. Contemporary black frame. Made in Newark, Delaware and hand signed.

It arrived sooner that expected. I had been advised that it would arrive by January 5, but I got it on Christmas eve... perfect.

Comments about FREE - MATTHEW AMEY:

This is a beautiful print, but I would have preferred it to come without a mat. I want a colored mat to match the other decor in my son's room. Also, if it must come with a mat, the mat should be a 1/4 inch biger. As it is, it cuts a bit to close to teh birds in the air.

Comments about FREE - MATTHEW AMEY:

The print is wonderful. The matting was not cut carefully, so I had trouble framing it myself even though it is advertised as a standard size. Also the mat color does not accentuate the print paper color. Neutral is safer but not as attractive with the off white background. The mat also crowds the actual print, it practically touches one of the birds and detracts from the print.

When I found out the product would not be delivered when I expected, I changed the delivery address from office to home. Then it was delivered a few days earlier than I had been told. . .to my office. Let's just say I got poor information from customer service but the order was received on time (by mistake). Confusing, causing me anxiety, but nice work. Very happy with the product.

Comments about FREE - MATTHEW AMEY:

I love it. It speaks to me and makes me happy. The artist is very talented and I would buy something from him again. It's hanging in my living room by my piano, next to my favorite chair. The one complaint is I wish the paper was white; not off white. Also, uncommongoods titled it "Free" and the artist titled it "Laid Back." It's all good though. No worries. Thanks!
