Artist Steve Buss uses aluminum, Plexiglas and everyday objects to create his one-of-a-kind minimalist and functional pieces. Inspired by philosophy, nature, industry, the Allman and Marx Brothers, Buss infuses his work with the ideas of levity, gravity and sometimes a bit of playfulness.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Buss had a brief stint at the NYC School of Visual Arts. After dropping out, the former photography major hitchhiked across America for a year and stayed at the Institute of Human Abilities Commune in Oakland, CA for a year before packing up and hitchhiking through Iceland, Luxembourg, Holland, (where he had a short stint with Boltini's Traveling Circus), Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Spain , North Africa, France and England.
He spent 15 years doing construction contracting before devoting himself full time to creating functional objects and sculptures.
Buss' work has been featured in galleries and museum stores across America, as well as in Canada, Singapore, Australia, Japan, the Philippines and New Zealand.
Buss presently resides in Ohio.
