With her handcrafted fern pots, artist Shelly Cubarney creates a lasting impression of natural beauty. She throws each one by hand on her pottery wheel using the highest quality porcelain clay, and presses into its surface a fern from the woods near her Pennsylvania studio. The inside of the pot is glazed with a rich, deep hue, while the outside is hand sanded for a raw texture, and stained an earthy brown.
And these handsome jars not only hold water, they play a part in preserving it as well. The distinctive outer coloring is derived from iron and manganese oxide which has been extracted from polluted mine runoff and recycled into a 100% safe ceramic glaze. It's part of an ongoing effort that is bringing new vibrant life to the region's waterways – and to your decor as well. Larger blue vase (on left) and smaller green vase (on right) sold separately. Handmade in Zelienople, Pennsylvania.
