drip drop bird housesby Jim Schatz
- the story
Nesting Outside the Box
Forget about those boxy wooden birdhouses you made back in summer camp. How about a birdhouse with style as sophisticated as you are? These modern aviary apartments are crafted from uniquely textured, high-fired stoneware. The exterior is finished in vibrant colors, with a high-gloss finish that helps repel predators. The aluminum accents are rust resistant, and the high quality ceramic is durable and able to withstand year-round temperature extremes. The 1.13" opening makes a welcoming front door for chickadees, wrens, and other small bird varieties. For the home's human caretaker, the aluminum hanging assembly can be easily removed using the included hex key wrench in order to cleaning the interior whenever a feathered tenant moves out. Handmade in USA.

- Care instructions: Wipe clean ceramic, aluminum, and stainless steel surfaces with a damp cloth. We recommend cleaning your bird house after each brood has left. Use a 10% bleach to water solution, scrub with a firm brush and rinse thoroughly. Allow to dry. If you live in an area that freezes please make sure the interior of the Drip Drop Bird House remains dry during the critical times of year when it freezes and thaws. Damage to the egg may occur during the freeze/thaw cycles if the interior is wet.

Using instinct and inspiration, J Schatz creates objects that bring wonder and joy to life through the creative and innovative use of the materials at hand. We are dreamers and explorers. Clay is the primary material that inspires us to create. We mold and sculpt clay into shapes that are pierced, scratched, carved, drilled, glazed and fired into beautifully finished products.
All products are created to fit in harmony with the environment. Ideas that become products are incorporated into Jim's daily life to ensure that the fit is right. Customers confirm our findings in heart felt letters, e-mail and phone calls of praise, motivating us to continue creating products that will expose the wonders of life.
2000 It began humbly in 2000 when Jim Schatz made the first prototype Egg Lamp in his East Village apartment in Manhattan. The kiln was the size of a hat box and the apartment was cramped. He sought refuge in the woods three hours from the city and purchased a kiln large enough to fire thirteen products at a time.
2007 J Schatz now has four kilns and employs four hard working artists who work hand in hand with Jim to create beautiful, glossy finished ceramic ware. Thousands of products have been sold to satisfied customers located throughout all fifty states and in 13 countries around the world.
The company has eleven product lines: Buff Humpty, Cilindro Pendants, Egg Banks, Egg Bird Feeders, Egg Bird Houses, Egg Lamps, Egg Planters, Happening Curtains, Night Flight To Venus, Poodle Butts and Vases.
We are one of a handful of U.S. based design manufacturers and our studio is alive with color and activity. Indulge today.

Comments about Drip Drop Bird Houses:
I was so happy to receive my gift to myself. This house is big, bright and looks very well made with a nice perch and drainhole. I hope to see some residents as soon as I put it out.
Love your stuff. I ordered the felt birdhouses and moss terrarium for myself as well. Merry Christmas to me. Even my husband was impressed with your catalouge and found a few goodies for himself.
