driftwood wall hooksby Kiel Mead
- the story
From Tree to Shining Sea
These driftwood hooks, from designer Kiel Mead, will bring some windswept beauty to your decor. They're made from natural driftwood, worn smooth by tumbling in the Atlantic surf and then salvaged from the coastal beaches of New York State. Kiel then trims the wood to size and dyes each piece an unexpectedly vibrant, rainbow hue. They come with two brass screws, which highlight the striking combination of free-spirited, natural materials and engineered practicality. As you hang your hat or scarf each day, you can let your imagination run with the image of rolling waves and briny sea air. Handmade in New York. Sold individually.
Because of the natural materials in the product, each piece will have unique variations in size, shape and color. Sizes will vary between 7" and 12".

- the maker
Kiel (pronounced as you would "Kyle") Mead is a Fredonia High School 2002 graduate. In the six years since, Mead has transcended from the Hillbillies' school art classes to an up-and-coming jewelry and furniture designer in New York City.
Mead's jewelry stands out in stark contrast to the expected use of precious stones, gems and metals. Where most people see finite use for a common object, Mead sees vast potential. The results are whimsical and unexpected.
His innovative designs have been featured in magazines, museums and on a myriad of websites and blogs. Kiel studied Industrial Design at Pratt Institute of Art where he learned to appreciate and explore the extraordinary.
