donkey and elephant mittensby Green 3
- the story
Is the state of politics leaving you cold? Then heat up the conversation with these boldly bipartisan mittens. They're woven from a patriotic blend of red, white and blue acrylic and recycled cotton. The opposing mittens are decorated with the emblems of the political parties, and clearly labeled "Left" and "Right"--handy when trying to determine which direction you are leaning. And whether you've been throwing snowballs or flinging mud, you can clean up your act by simply popping your mittens into the washer. Now if only we could keep real politics from getting out of hand as well... Made in Binghampton, New York.

- the maker
Founded in 2006, Green3 is the brainchild of Sandy Martin, a Michigan farm girl turned apparel industry maven. Growing up on a farm, Sandy witnessed first-hand the health repercussions of conventional farming and pesticides. Later when she worked in the apparel industry, she saw how manufacturers negatively affected the environment and communities where they operated. So with the help of her husband Jim, Sandy founded an apparel company based on honesty, environmental awareness and high-quality American-made products.
Green 3 uses organic or recycled cotton in its products. The cotton is spun and knit into fabric, as well as screened and dyed with water-based inks in North Carolina. This process is completely green and uses no PVCs, plastisols, heavy-metal inks or chlorinated bleaches.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
From irregular T-shirts to the unusable ends of fabric bolts, Green 3 reengineers waste fabric from its own factories into creative items such as the Scraptee herbal pouch, the T-shirt scarf and UncommonGoods' new jewelry pouches. They also use secondhand materials from thrift stores and left over fabrics from garment manufacturers.
Made in America
Headquartered in a former horse carriage terminal from the 1800s, Green 3 is situated on the shores of Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and is dedicated to creating apparel jobs both there and throughout the U.S. Green 3 also works with Aspiro, a non-profit in Green Bay, Wisconsin that specializes in teaching job skills to cognitively disabled adults. Both the T-shirt scarves and suit totes are cut and sewn by adults in the program, giving them an opportunity for independent living. collection
