Picture Imperfect

A cult classic in the art world, the Diana camera produces images that are soft and dreamy with super-saturated colors, unpredictable blurring and random contrast. A grittier alternative to the digital camera, the Diana infuses unexpected meaning, wonderful imperfections and an artistic edge into what might just be an ordinary shot.

You'll be able to shoot incredible images with multiple exposures, overlapping frames, nighttime exposures and light leaks. It even has a panoramic and pinhole feature. Each camera is accompanied by an instructional booklet and hardcover book, Diana: True Tales and Short Stories, which explores the history and uses of the camera and includes interviews and photos. Uses 120 film. Made in China.

History of the Diana Camera

Originally the Diana camera was made in the 1960s at a small firm in Hong Kong. It was made entirely out of plastic and cost about a dollar. It failed in the market and was discontinued in the 1970s, which of course boosted its status to collector's item. This model is based on the original and recreated in 2007.

It is plastic, however, it looks as if it's made with care. Got it to give as a secret santa present and the recipient was very please. Not sure how well it takes photos, but I haven't heard anything bad yet!

This is a great gift for that creative person in your' life. It is unique and yet carries with it a history, beautifully illustrated in the hard bound book that comes with the camera. Yes, the camera is light and feels like a toy, thats because it IS! A toy for the creative soul! Note: The 120 film for this camera is widely available online.

                      Comments about DIANA CAMERA:

This is a very cool camera, but I do not know much about photography so having to deal with all the different methods that are required to capture a good picture is a little overwhelming. This camera also requires that you have a tripod in order to capture good pictures when the light quality isnt so great because you have to hold the exposure lens open for a while. I've had a lot of fun taking pictures, but I can only take the pictures when it is really bright outside because I do not have a tripod so the pictures have to be quick. People like looking at the camera because of it's fun design, so it is a good conversation started too.
I totally recommend reading the manual before using the camera in order to get the best quality pictures for those who are not photography experts.

                        Comments about DIANA CAMERA:

This was a gift for a teenage girl who loves photography. We shipped it out early for Christmas and she had a chance to open and use it. It was fun for her to mess around and be creative. Took a little getting used to but that was part of the excitement. Developing the film presents a small challenge (finding film another challenge) but overall well worth the fun she had and she really enjoys how the photos look.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my best friend. I was expecting a slightly better built camera, rather than the light plastic toy-like thing that came in the mail. I can't attest to the quality of the pictures, as I haven't given the camera to my friend yet. Also, I thought the book was more of a photo album, but it's just a hard cover manuel with other people's pictures in it.

in this "age" of technology & impatience its a GREAT way to go back to the "old school" days of photography when the excitement of the unknown was more then half the fun!

I purchased one camera for my brother for a combined Christmas/groomsman's gift, and one for myself. I used mine and also lent it to our wedding photographers when I recently got married. It's a lot of fun to use and really takes you back to the 60s and 70s. The fun retro appeal is a great conversation starter. The included book provides lots of cool stories and sample photos. You could get the same effects with Photoshop and other photo editing software, but what a great conversation to say "No, I didn't edit this photo at all!". It's a great gift, and a perfect second camera for anyone with a joy for photography.
