Charlotte Guptill was inspired by her love of sailing to incorporate nautical charts into her designs in 2006. In 2009, with the assistance of her then fiancé', John, Charlotte formally launched CHART Metalworks on Custom House Wharf, not far from their home on Portland, Maine's peninsula.

Now, with the help of a talented pack of Maine-based artisans, and sometimes some distraction from their Corgi-Terrier Mix, Riley, the husband and wife team handcraft custom nautical chart and map adornments in their studio on Portland, Maine's working waterfront.

Each unique piece is hand-cast. The chart or map images are hand cut and hand placed. Each piece is topped with a boaters resin creating a natural dome, magnifying the artwork below.
