Christine Olmsted

Christine Olmsted studied Environmental Design at the University of California, Davis, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987. After various job experiences Christine found herself living in Kyoto, Japan teaching English in the early 1990s. It was there she was inspired by the simplicity of form and the art of wrapping and tying. She also found her first pile of discarded copper wire and soon enough her women figures found life.

These figures are inspired by all the fantastic women Christine has met and still continues to meet. Their outstretched arms--a posture of celebration, joy and victory--embrace the world and say yes to challenges and adventures.

Christine is also inspired by folk art from around the world. Fascinated by its intricacies, spirit, humor and color, she hopes these qualities emanate from her tiny sculptures.

Upon returning to the U.S., Christine began the arduous task of starting her art jewelry business, which she happily continues today. Women themed gifts became popular in the last decade, and Christine was on the forefront of this genre. She uses techniques of sculpting, sewing and painting in creating each of her hand built figures. Her materials are as eclectic as the women who inspire her.

Christine currently lives in West Sacramento, California with her husband, son and their animals.
