Creatures Card Game

Wild Game

"In this corner: part vulture, part anaconda, part gila monster! It's... the 'vulconster'! And the contender: the water loving beast with opposable thumbs! Meet the 'chimpotacuda'!"

The winner of this titanic clash is in your hands, thanks to the monstrously fun Creatures card game.

The game's cards are illustrated with the front, middle, and back portion of a wide range of animals, from armadillos to vampire bats. Players lay out their cards to form three-part creatures, each with a unique name, with ridiculous illustrations and descriptions. Those beasts then enter combat as the players add up their components' score. The "chimpotacuda", for example, is part chimpanzee (+5), part hippopotamus (+7) and part barracuda (+5), for a total of 17 points. The "vulconster" has 18 points, so the "chimpotacude" is defeated and reshuffled into the deck. Players of all ages will have a roaring good time as they mix, match and compete. Made in Dallas, TX.

    Comments about CREATURES CARD GAME:

I'm very interested in games generally, and when I saw the Kickstarter project for 'Creatures - The Card Game' I was particularly charmed by it's simplicity in game-play, which reminded me of the child-play where you draw a part of an animal, fold the paper leaving only the ends of the lines visible, leaving a hint for the next child to draw the next part of the body, and so on. This in it self is really fun (recently saw a similar mechanic worked out in a educational installation in a dutch museum called Naturalis).

Of course 'Creatures - The Card Game' has a more complex game-mechanic as well: based on the unique qualities of the original animal all part-cards represent a value. Combining those values combine in a new species paves the road for a somewhat traditional trade-card mechanic using hit-points. Because the cards are kept plane and simple it leave opportunities to add or leave out rules. As a matter a fact, before reading the rules my kids made up a game-mechanic of their own, showing how appealing the cards are.

The cards themselves are not of great quality and therefor lack durability. The cards com in a box with two stacks of cards, but without a separation between the stacks, making the box maybe suitable for delivery by mail but less for safekeeping the cards. I'd rather paid a buck more for higher quality, but given the price it's OK.

My conclusion: great flexible game for all ages, and surely value for money!
