Tray Chic

This high design serving tray takes modern styling down a whole new road. The base is crafted from a special concrete that offers a smooth-to-the-touch surface like stoneware, but with unique visual detailing. Each base is cast in a handmade mold, cured for a week, and then hand-finished and given two coats of carnauba wax. That is topped with a stainless steel panel that provides a sleek serving surface for your canapés or cheese selection. The steel is held securely in place by ten magnets sealed within the base itself. The base has rounded contours that are comfortable in the hands, and open space beneath the metal platter to minimize its weight. The piece is stylish enough to be left in use on your bar or buffet, but practical enough to be used in table service. Stainless steel platter is machine washable. Handmade in Plum Island, Massachusetts.

Jordan Castro

The Culinarium product line is the manifestation of Jordan Castro's to create beautiful and meticulously crafted, hand-made products for cooking and entertaining.
Before starting Culinarium, Jordan had a business, which produced sculptural and architectural pre-cast concrete elements. While working on larger scale projects, he always wanted to develop a concrete mix that would be sophisticated enough to be used for much more diminutive and detailed wares like those that are now created at Culinarium. It took Jordan almost ten years of testing and tweaking to develop the mix that is now used. Indeed, it took a long time to develop the processes that is now employed, but as far as he is concerned, it was worth the wait!
Jordan has been working hard to produce concrete products that are durable, functional, and beautiful. He believes the heart & soul of any house is the kitchen, and enjoys bringing practical solutions to the home, which is what led him to design and craft Culinarium Kitchenware.

We think this tray would look great serving up a slab of fresh appetizers! What would you serve on this concrete plate?

      Vote: Thumbs down!

10x8 serving platform is kind of small.

      Vote: Thumbs down!

This is too much design for the use; there are similar serving pieces in catalogs that keep the food either hot or cold, depending on whether one places it in the freezer or oven before use.

      Vote: Thumbs up!

Modern, contemporary, for the guy in your life that likes to entertain. I do wish the surface was larger.

      Vote: Thumbs up!

      sleek, modern

Why would anyone want a concrete plate? Heavy=inconvenient

      Vote: Thumbs down!

No thanks, not worth my time to find space for this

Nah--too cold and stark and industrial looking. I'd worry that the canapes were plastic....!

      Vote: Thumbs down!

      Looks too heavy to handle.

Seems like it would be heavy.

I love concrete art, but think this is just unattractive and boring.

Concrete? And who will carry it?

      Vote: Thumbs up!

      Very minimalist. I like it.

      Vote: Thumbs down!

though it does not give the weight, I imagine it'd be heavy for its size (and imagine if you dropped it; it could damage the floor)

      Vote: Thumbs up!

I love the sleek design of this product! The fact that it's functional art would make it perfect for anyone that likes to entertain.

My husband is a construction contractor and specializes in concrete!

      Vote: Thumbs down!

Thanks for all of your votes and comments! We just updated the product story with the tray's weight. It's a hardy 6 pounds.

Not my style. Too industrial looking.

      Vote: Thumbs up!

Love contemporary goods. I'd buy this, but I would also like to see a set offered with a second, larger tray.
