Go to Town

What make a house a home and what makes a town a community? This imaginative board game by illustrator Saxton Freymann gives kids and grownups alike the opportunity to explore these ideas through creative urban planning and play. In order from youngest to oldest, players connect their homes with important establishments, including the hospital, the circus, the school, a factory, and other businesses that add value to their village. After each player selects a location tile, he or she explains why this spot will be important to the people who live in this budding community. By selecting these tiles, children are given the responsibility of deciding what type of community they'll invent. Will their community boast a library, a school, and a recycling center? Or will it include a museum, theater, and a park? Once all of the location tiles have been drawn, players can test their spatial perception by connecting businesses with their home using tiles illustrated with a wandering yellow road. When all of the places are connected, players can take turns telling stories about their newly built settlement and how all of the places within it bring their miniature community together. Made in China. Ages 5+.
