Change Is Beautiful

Artist Jessie Driscoll's gleaming Coin Charm Bracelets forge history and design through the ever-evolving nature of silver. Hand-forged from vintage dimes (dating from 1827-1964) given to Driscoll by her paternal grandparents, each one-of-a-kind piece is shaped using traditional forging and hammering techniques and then cast in sterling silver. The front of each coin cast is transformed into shapely peony and daisy pendants, while the back retains its original monetary imprint. Handmade by Jessie Driscoll in Woodstock, NY. Sold separately.

Jessie Driscoll

For Jessie Driscoll, jewelry is a family affair. An avid jeweler since childhood, all four of Driscoll's grandparents made jewelry before her--it was only natural for Driscoll to pick up the craft and thrive in her own way.

Known for her silver dollar jewelry collection, Driscoll considers these one-of-a-kind pieces the coming together of her skills and inspirations. Serendipitously, Driscoll received a large supply of vintage silver coins as a gift from her paternal grandparents. Drawing upon her experience in antiques sales, Driscoll's mother helped her to turn her hobby into a thriving business.

Driscoll studied silversmithing at the Woodstock Guild in Woodstock, NY. While obtaining a BA in Psychology at Vanderbilt University, she pursued music, art and sourced antique jewelry in her free time. Driscoll collected historic pieces like WWII trench art bracelets with the help of her father. Driscoll lives in Woodstock, NY with her husband (and business partner), Dan, and their three children.

i love the flower dime--especially the contrast between the smooth and "bumpy" areas.

Juanita
Vote: Thumbs up!

Love them. I like that the back retains the orginal imprint. Would love as a necklace, too.

so much of this type of "stuff" in the market place

how about a photo showing the vintage dime on back? that's what makes them really unique.

Jessie
Vote: Thumbs up!

The first photo will show you the back if you click on it.

I love Jessie's jewelry. She has a real gift for making beautiful pieces out of ordinary things. She puts her heart into creating each design, and I think it shows in the finished pieces.

I love this product. I especially like that she makes these from coins she inherited from her grandfather. I inherited coins from my grandmother, and by themselves they aren't worth much. So to make something useful and sentimental out of them would be great. I didn't like the artist's tone in her response to comments, though. Very snippy, IMHO.

Vote: Thumbs down!

pendent is sweet but chain is generic

Vicky
Vote: Thumbs up!

Carrying on Native American traditions of using coins to make beads, etc. Nicely done and reasonably priced

ASHLEY
Vote: Thumbs down!

Just not exciting or, "uncommon."

maureen
Vote: Thumbs up!

Great idea,would buy!

Shelley
Vote: Thumbs down!

The story is good, but the piece itself doesn't really jump out at you. I could buy something like this at Claire's in the mall. I would have to purposely point out and explain to people what made it cool- I don't think many people would notice it otherwise.

Vote: Thumbs up!

after looking at all the other things here and searching for anything like it anywhere I would have to say this is the best buy and most UN common (and especially sweet) items listed here or seen anywhere. some folks keep writing about buying things cheeper at some big box store(and they keep dropping the NAME of said stores, which sell slave made crap that is NOTHING like the excellent handmade quality and unique clever designs I see here, so I am wondering if those people work for the stores they keep mentioning at each of their thumbs down to each of these artists lovely creations)

Melissa V
Vote: Thumbs up!

Well worth the time and effort! Beautiful!

Kara
Vote: Thumbs up!

I love the bigger pieces and that they are made from coins. I also want to give a big thumbs up to the artist for standing up for her work.

Sharon
Vote: Thumbs down!

Since these were given to her by her grandparents, I appreciate the sentimentality, but kind of reminds me of a hippy-type bracelet years ago. might consider it for a gift, though.

Mitzi
Vote: Thumbs up!

Love these and would buy them. Great for gifts.

Tina Marie
Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute idea, have seen it elsewhere for much less.

Darcy
Vote: Thumbs down!

Seems like this style is overdone.

Amanda
Vote: Thumbs up!

love it!

Ann
Vote: Thumbs down!

I love that it's handmade in the USA but...it's too ordinary. It's been done.

Alisha
Vote: Thumbs up!

I love the idea and the price is reasonable. I would buy this for myself.

Heather
Vote: Thumbs up!

Made in the USA!!!!

Aimee Dars
Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute but not unique or quirky enough for uncommon goods.

Anita
Vote: Thumbs up!

Love these! Love that they are made in USA!

Kathleen
Vote: Thumbs down!

Not very interesting to me.

Brandi
Vote: Thumbs down!

Seems like a very high price for something that is too similar to all the others you can find anywhere for a lot less.

thomas
Vote: Thumbs up!

Cute for a little girl.

Carol
Vote: Thumbs down!

I like the concept but pricey for one charm.

anna
Vote: Thumbs up!

cute!

Melodi
Vote: Thumbs down!

Boring!

Jeannie
Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute.. but too expensive.

Kendra
Vote: Thumbs down!

Not very "uncommon".

erin
Vote: Thumbs up!

Cute!

Barbara
Vote: Thumbs down!

Kinda dorky

Julie
Vote: Thumbs down!

Too much for a bracelet and design isn't especially unique.

Janet
Vote: Thumbs down!

I love coin jewelry and adore dimes. To me, this is just desecration of a beautiful coin! These designs are not that cute, and not worthy of ruining a beautiful piece of money.

Vonette
Vote: Thumbs down!

again and again...why?

Margaret
Vote: Thumbs up!

nice

judy
Vote: Thumbs down!

I am sure there is demographic for this, but I can't imagine it being all that large.

Bethany
Vote: Thumbs up!

I didn't love this until I looked at the other pictures, where you can actually see the vintage dimes. So cool!!

Keisha
Vote: Thumbs up!

I like them but they remind me of everything else. Just not very creative.

madeline
Vote: Thumbs down!

not for me

Judith
Vote: Thumbs up!

Make it into a necklace!

Vanessa
Vote: Thumbs up!

Simple, clean, classy!

Jody
Vote: Thumbs up!

Would be nice as a necklace, too. I don't wear bracelets, but I see the appeal of this piece.

Elizabeth
Vote: Thumbs up!

Cute. But I'm sad she ruined the antique dimes to make them.

scharmaine
Vote: Thumbs up!

Very nice. Unique.

Janet
Vote: Thumbs down!

Interesting but I would not buy it.

Andrea
Vote: Thumbs up!

I like this idea, but I wish they would sell the charms singly, because I already have 2 sterling silver charm bracelets that I just add charms to.

Melissa
Vote: Thumbs up!

Very unique! I would definitely want to wear it and gift it to my friends.

H
Vote: Thumbs down!

I think it's a shame to destroy beautiful vintage coins! Seriously, old silver coins are awesome and these transformations look ultra cheap. I also think it's sad that the artist felt the need to argue with consumers about their opinions. There isn't anything she can say that would convince me into making a purchase. I see them, I don't like them and I know what they are (and what they were). I wish she'd stop destroying old coins that are essentially gone forever once transformed.

Christine
Vote: Thumbs up!

Neat idea.

kathleen
Vote: Thumbs down!

It would make a better necklace

bonnie
Vote: Thumbs up!

Like It! attractive in it's simplicity

Jessamyn
Vote: Thumbs down!

kind of boring

Paula
Vote: Thumbs up!

Very nice and different. I didn't think they were very different until I looked at the reverse image. I would buy them for my granddaughters.

Irene

I think they are pretty nice. I can see that the artist has put special effort to make them unique. I like the idea of the original coin design on the back.

carole
Vote: Thumbs up!

would get and you can add charms to it

jeanne
Vote: Thumbs down!

I would rather have a real dime.

Melinda
Vote: Thumbs down!

boring and unappealing design

vickie

Just ok

Amanda
Vote: Thumbs up!

Really beautiful pieces of art.

megan
Vote: Thumbs down!

Not so into your jewelry in general.

Jamie
Vote: Thumbs up!

Pretty and artistic looking really like these

Kelli
Vote: Thumbs up!

Gorgeous!!

amy
Vote: Thumbs down!

isn't it illegal to deface money?

Flo
Vote: Thumbs up!

Would rather see a necklace. Sweet for a young person as a bracelet.

Eileen
Vote: Thumbs down!

Why would you make something so pedestrian out of a real silver dime?

Laurie
Vote: Thumbs down!

I'd rather have the dime itself as the pendant.

Regina
Vote: Thumbs down!

It looks like something I would give to a ten year old.

Rachelle
Vote: Thumbs down!

Love the story behind the pieces but they are just too boring.

Pam
Vote: Thumbs up!

Nice pieces; wondering if the bracelet itself is sterling. If so, the price is appropriate.

jw
Vote: Thumbs up!

I'd love to see this in other metals as well

Kelleigh
Vote: Thumbs up!

beautiful and great concept.

Kathleen

I like this bracelet alot...but it needs something more. The dime art is a wonderful idea, but it just seems too plain for the cost.

Stephanie
Vote: Thumbs up!

i love these! i want one! i'd be more comfortable purchasing at the 30-40 value though

alison
Vote: Thumbs up!

Good use of dimes.

Jessica
Vote: Thumbs up!

I have a pendant from this artist, it's beautiful and I receive compliments every time I wear it. (It actually looks a lot like the daisy dime but it's bigger.) It holds up well, a great gift!

Becca
Vote: Thumbs down!

Too generic looking.

Stephanie
Vote: Thumbs up!

Pretty, and simple, but it would probably sell better at a little bit lower price.

Jennifer
Vote: Thumbs up!

It's a shame to kill the dimes, but they're okay.

Francie
Vote: Thumbs down!

Too expensive for the simpleness of the item-Uncommon Goods can do much better!

angela
Vote: Thumbs down!

kinda boring...

Maria
Vote: Thumbs down!

would like it better if it were a necklace.

Eileen
Vote: Thumbs down!

I think the workmanship is very good;this piece is just not my style.

Lauren
Vote: Thumbs down!

Not of fan of bracelets in general, but especially don't like charm bracelets, but I get that others like them... what's the point of using vintage dimes if you're just going to make them unrecognizable?

Lisa
Vote: Thumbs down!

Interesting item, but I just don't like the flowers. I think that I would like the vintage dime on its own better.

Wendy
Vote: Thumbs up!

Pretty, but I'd prefer this as a necklace.

Linda
Vote: Thumbs down!

who would wear this in 2011?

Heather
Vote: Thumbs up!

This is a cute concept, that's for sure. It is somewhat original in that the maker used a dime to create the pendant. Other than that, I don't see much special. I would love to see the gram weight on this. I just recently bought an 8g sterling silver bracelet for $60 and it looks MUCH more substantial than this piece.

Sharon
Vote: Thumbs down!

These don't move me in any way...they seem very ordinary...besides isn't it illegal to mutilate money?

Kathleen
Vote: Thumbs down!

Cute but too costly for what it is.

Sandra
Vote: Thumbs down!

boring

kimberly
Vote: Thumbs down!

Design isn't very unique.

Heather
Vote: Thumbs down!

I see this and I feel disconnected from the rest of the world's style.

Stacie
Vote: Thumbs down!

i'm not sure how many dimes it took to make this bracelet, but i'd rather have the dimes.

Tamara
Vote: Thumbs down!

I hated thumbs-downing this. Loved the charms themselves, but not the chains. They look like chains for cheap kids' charm bracelets.

Eugenia
Vote: Thumbs up!

but kind of pricey

Amy
Vote: Thumbs up!

Cute!

Xena
Vote: Thumbs up!

I really love these.

betty
Vote: Thumbs up!

pretty

Lisa
Vote: Thumbs down!

Tacky, cheap looking.

Jill
Vote: Thumbs down!

Kinda boring.

Mariana
Vote: Thumbs up!

I was going to vote thumbs down because you couldn't tell they were dimes but then I read the artist's comment and looked at the back. Nice!

Pam
Vote: Thumbs up!

Would be cute as a necklace~

Kathy
Vote: Thumbs down!

look childish.

Katie
Vote: Thumbs up!

GREAT STORY!

Karen
Vote: Thumbs up!

Love it!

Sean
Vote: Thumbs up!

Wow

ADA
Vote: Thumbs down!

Too expensive for the simple bracelet

Becky
Vote: Thumbs up!

I like these in general, but would be much more likely to buy them as a necklace than a bracelet. I think that would show off the pendants better.

Lisa
Vote: Thumbs up!

would like to see charms available too!

Julie
Vote: Thumbs up!

Adorable!! I am a sucker for a charm bracelet and this one is cute and unique. Love the daisy.

Danna
Vote: Thumbs down!

I think its a shame they're ruining vintage dimes to make cheesy jewelry. I'd rather see the necklace with a vintage dime encased and protected.

Julie
Vote: Thumbs up!

I think it might even be a neat idea if you could get this done with a coin with your birthyear on it or maybe the customer could send in a coin that is special to them and that would in turn make the bracelet a family heirloom for generations to come....

Laila
Vote: Thumbs up!

we like the daisy dime

Betty
Vote: Thumbs up!

nice but tad bit expensive for the age grouo that would probably wear it

Anne
Vote: Thumbs down!

Too cutsey for me

Leigh
Vote: Thumbs down!

Pricey!

Dr. Sowande

could look better as a necklace.

Carole
Vote: Thumbs up!

Kate
Vote: Thumbs up!

gail
Vote: Thumbs up!

cute, but common

Kayla
Vote: Thumbs up!

Really like these...this is what Uncommon Goods IS to me!

Pamela
Vote: Thumbs up!

Price seems good. I just saw these at the Philadelphia Flower Show and I believe they cost more.

Andrea
Vote: Thumbs down!

For materials of such historical value, these pieces could've been executed in a more careful, classy way.

Deborah
Vote: Thumbs down!

Too many bracelets similar to these around and these aren't something I'd wear.

Jennifer
Vote: Thumbs up!

very clever

Jackie
Vote: Thumbs down!

Just don't like it

Sherri
Vote: Thumbs up!

Not sure about the price, and can you buy just the coins to add more to bracelet? Like that it's different than all the "add-a -bead" bracelets that are all the craze right now.

Delyn
Vote: Thumbs down!

Boring and expensive. I would rather have a charm of the vintage dime than this.

Jaye
Vote: Thumbs down!

Not very "uncommon."

Lisa
Vote: Thumbs down!

MEH.

Anita
Vote: Thumbs up!

SO cute!

Jenny
Vote: Thumbs up!

I have been searching for a silver charm bracelet, and this would be the perfect start. From here I could add my own charms.

Debbie
Vote: Thumbs down!

Would wear as a necklace.

Sharon
Vote: Thumbs down!

Why would one do such a horrible thing to VINTAGE DIMES?????? Have you not heard of a coin museum???

Martha
Vote: Thumbs up!

Great idea, but need to show the back.

Heather
Vote: Thumbs down!

Perhaps show a few dime 'faces'? Or have choices other than just flowers and daisies? Like what? Not sure! Sorry.

Kelly
Vote: Thumbs up!

love it!

Carolina
Vote: Thumbs down!

Don't like the bracelet itself, but the pendants are really nice!

Courtney
Vote: Thumbs down!

forget the forging, just put the vintage dime on it.

Kelly
Vote: Thumbs up!

Love it, but it seems a bit pricey; seeing as how the pendent itself was originally really only worth ten cents!
