Wandering Eyeful

It took obsessive doodler turned self-taught artist Gregg Visintainer 60-80 hours to create each of these vibrant, inventive portraits of three iconic American cities: New York, Chicago, and Seattle. Relive the joy of wandering a city's side streets and discovering its treasures as you explore his lushly layered illustrations with your eyes. At first glance, each city portrait seems to show a brilliant, night-lit skyline. But hidden in the intricate, painstakingly drawn lines are dozens of emblems, objects, and words embodying each city's most beloved elements. It can take days to find them all.

Search New York's skyline for the city's famous street signs, a taxi—and the Twin Towers, reflected in the water. Hidden in Chicago's skyline view from the Chicago River are the "L," O'Leary’s cow, and Al Capone. Look closely at Seattle's downtown skyline view from Kerry Park and you'll catch the Pike Place Fish Market logo, the Space Needle, and, of course, an umbrella.
