Travis Bruce Black grew up in Michigan, where he studied fine art there with some extraordinary teachers. In 2005 he moved to Albuquerque to continue his education at the University of New Mexico. Afterward he and his wife Molly started a unique gallery in Old Town Albuquerque. During this 4 year project, Travis came to the realization that his craft wasn't reaching everyday people. Consequently he started focusing on nature paintings that had a universal subject from naturalistic world to act as a more open door for people while still allowing him to experiment with abstraction, color and structure. Black makes his living as a full time artist showing in galleries across the country. For Travis, living in the desert increased his appreciation for how precious and curious life and nature can be. His work became this oasis, the concentrated force of life, color and juiciness of nature.
Artist Travis Bruce Black channels the terrain of the American Southwest in his explosive ink prints. Drawn to the "juiciness of nature," he amps up the ordinary by experimenting with abstraction and color. In this vibrant scene, we see a brightly plumed bird taking in its vibrant, yet ethereal environment—a winged reminder to find harmony and beauty in the everyday. Made in Albuquerque and printed in Oregon.
