Rock the Slopes

When your little winter daredevil isn't out hitting the slopes, he or she can chill out in this cool rocking chair. The one-of-a-kind seating, handmade by Mike Bellino from a retired snowboard and unfinished Canadian cedar, will be equally at home in a sporty bedroom nook or on a cabin porch.

The snowboard is treated with a polyurethane finish, but the wooden portions are left untreated. Instead, Bellino allows wood to undergo a natural finishing process called "checking," which creates naturally-occurring cracks that do not compromise the integrity of the wood. Handmade in Millbury, Massachusetts.

  • Item ID: 20984
  • Materials: cedar
  • 19" W x 29" D x 37" H (from floor to top of Snow Board); 27 lbs.
  • Intended for children ages 5 to 12, from 45 to 110 lbs. Cover if left outside. Unfinished cedar will patina and weather if left out in the elements, which is the artist's intention. If you prefer to keep the chair as is, treat it with a polyurethane finish or wood stain.

Michael Bellino

Michael Bellino started making SkiChairs back in 1993 after purchasing a house on a lake and building an enormous dock that needed furniture.

Looking for an alternative to plastic patio furniture, he found inspiration in O'Neils Bike and Ski Shop, which he managed. Two weeks and two prototypes later, he created the first SkiChair with his old racing and bump skis. Michael says he's still sitting in that original chair today! See all creations.
