What's A Cassette Player?

Actual quote from one of our interns: "I'm not sure what this is supposed to be." It's official: The beloved cassette player is a fossil. Before you get too sad, try to the remember the good times you spent together--the afternoons jamming out in your bedroom, getting lost in a power ballad on an extra long road trip, the list goes on.

Artist Jeff Klarin captures this sense of nostalgic melancholy in this hand cast sculpture of one of the first personal music players. Inspired by the temporal nature of even our most beloved gadgets, he ages each piece to signify the passing of time. Now everyone raise a lighter for the passing of the Walkman into vintage territory. Handmade in Los Angeles, California.

Exploring and pushing the boundaries of conventional fabrication and visual representation is what drives his creations. Many of his mixed-media pieces utilize photography, painting, illustration and transfer techniques that create organic 'accidents' that unexpectedly alter and transform the creative process. Using recycled wood and found materials is a recurring methodology in his work. Jeff has shown in both solo and group exhibitions in Japan and the US. and has received extensive coverage in British and European publications. He is in the collections of numerous film and music industry professionals. "The collective iconography of our modern culture can be used in visual representation to unite people to question how we interrelate and thus create commonality and compassion." His mission is to redefine conventional products by bringing a subversive wit to everyday objects. Through their quirky pop constructions, Bughouse hopes to expand the vocabulary of the way we all live and communicate.
