The Masculine Mystique

Like most interesting men, this ruggedly handsome wallet is full of surprises. Handmade from recycled rubber, its durable exterior once lived as tires on the streets of India. Stitched together with durable canvas fabric by Fair Trade artisans in rural India, each piece provided workers with a sustainable source of income. The recycled nature of the materials means that no two are alike, and the multiple card and cash pockets suggest an inner depth. Now, that's a wallet you could stick with for a lifetime.

Due to the recycled nature of the materials, the color of the canvas will vary, but will always be a dark neutral.

HSSS artisans

HSSS is a non-profit organization that works for the uplifting and development of underprivileged artisans. It is composed mainly of male artisans, both Hindu and Muslim, who suffer educational, training and health related issues. The hardships that these people go through include physical handicaps, illiteracy, extreme poverty, entrapment in lower castes, lack of knowledge about trade and markets, among others.

The artisans don't have knowledge of marketing skills and have many barriers to access international trade. However, they are very skilled in making wooden products and are committed to quality, so production is not a problem for them. Therefore, Fair Trade mostly helps them find a market and promote their products.

HSSS respects environmental values and for that they arrange to only use wood from the forest quota given by the government of India (which sells the wood of dead trees). When it comes to the advancement of the people, the organization is taking several steps for the betterment of the artisans. They have created self help groups for the artisans and also organize several exhibitions for promoting their art to increase their market opportunities.

I got this as a gift for my fiance and he loved it. He didn't really like the camo coloring, but when I told him it was a random selection he was okay with it.

Comments about CANVAS AND BIKE TUBE WALLET:

I loved the recycled rubber wallet I got for my boyfriend! It is from India where he lived for a short time. Unfortunately the style/canvas portion was camouflage. I wasn't aware that this might be an option to be sent to me. We are both vegetarian and against war so anything camo is not exactly something we would be interested in. So, I had to spend money to return it for another. It just would have been nice to have been given some options to what was available.

Comments about CANVAS AND BIKE TUBE WALLET:

I got this wallet as a replacement to my very old, finally beaten cloth wallet. Although only time will tell, it seems to be very well-made. It's also incomparably hip. And cute.

The only negative is the price.

        Canvas and Bike Tube Wallet

        Verified Buyer

        Pros

        • Fair Trade
        • No animal skins
        • recycled material
        • Unique
        • Well Made

        Cons

        • Limited card pockets
        • Too large

        Best Uses

Comments about CANVAS AND BIKE TUBE WALLET:

this replaced my beloved 20 yr old eel skin (and duct taped) tri-fold wallet. It's well made and colorful and unique with the textile and tire combo. It's on the large size so it doesn't easily go in and out of my pockets, especially with the tire material on the edge. There are no bulky zippers, which I like. There are only 4 card pockets and one ID pocket, plus a bigger pocket on each side, so for someone with 17 "cards", it doesn't work as well as my old tri-fold. Still, overall it's nice and I'll make it work.
