Lay Down Your Arms

This striking cuff bracelet is named Caliber™ for two different reasons. The first is because it shows off the high caliber of its craftsmanship, made from solid brass with a handsome hammered texture and rhodium plating. Second is because these bracelets salute the reduction of street violence through gun and ammunition buy-back programs.

Each bracelet is stamped with the serial number of a weapon taken in by one of these programs, and the city where it was from. The specific curve of the bracelet was chosen by the designer to echo the trigger cage of a gun, while the hammered finish represents the hard work put in by law enforcement and citizens to bring peace to our cities and neighborhoods. Made in the USA.

The Caliber Collection was initially made up of the serial numbers from 250 guns and metal from bullet casings seized by the Newark Police Department. The result is a series of pieces that embody the gun's transformation from a destructive weapon to a powerful symbol of renewal. The name Caliber Collection was chosen for its two meanings; the caliber of a gun and how the caliber of a city is raised when illegal guns are taken off its streets.

Frustrated by an increase in gun related violence in the San Francisco bay area, On March 16th, 2013, the Pittsburg Police Department held a gun buyback and amnesty program with private funding from area businesses. 291 illegal guns came off the streets that day. Determined to continue the fight to raise the caliber of their city, Pittsburg city council and Police Department reached out to jewelry for a Cause to create a virtuous cycle with the destroyed weapons. The result is the jewelry we see here.
