Blue Ridge Beauty
Imagine the perfect, early morning stillness in the Appalachian Mountains. Rolling ridges extend out to the horizon, wrapped in mist, and the carpet of pine needles perfumes the air as you walk. On the forest floor you spot one of nature's gems: a tiny, perfect pinecone.
Jewelry artist Nancy Nelson celebrates that woodland symbol of rebirth and enlightenment in this transcendent necklace. The brass pendant, with its painted blue patina, is hand cast from an actual, delicate pinecone collected from Swallow Falls State Park in Maryland. It's suspended from a delicate 14k gold filled chain with alternating, textured links. Pendant has been finished with a clear sealer to keep its color perpetually fresh. Handmade in West Virginia.

Nancy Nelson
Nancy Nelson believes that jewelry should evoke an emotion and tell a story for every wearer. Her passion for working with metals emerged while obtaining her BFA in Industrial Design. She enrolled in a metalsmithing class where she made her first sterling silver ring. After that point, she was hooked and continued developing her own unique style.
A beautiful blend of modern shapes and rustic forms can be seen in all of her designs. Nancy's works reflects a love for nature, where she finds inspiration in the beauty that surrounds us. "Every natural finding I have casted is discovered by me usually not too far from home in the rural countryside. Once I find that perfect object with beautiful shapes and texture, I bring it back to my studio and figure out how I can transform it into a simple, feminine and rustic chic piece of jewelry." Every one of Nancy's pieces is hand-assembled in her studio in West Virginia. See

Nancy Nelson's pretty pine cone is a lovely little reminder to celebrate nature and appreciate the the small things while looking at the big picture. What do you love about this handmade design?

Love the unexpected blue on the pinecone. Very nice piece.

What the heck is this suppose to be? Yes, it's a necklace but of what?
Pamela
Love the pinecone, but the chain needs to be more simple. As it is, the chain pulls your eye away from the pinecone, which should be the focus.
Lynne
I love pinecones and the blue is a nice color with the brass.

This just isn't for me. It looks a little to "homemade" for my tastes.

Blue? No. Maybe white or sparkly like snow...
Paige
I love this idea but wish the chain was longer to wear loosely and for the pine cone to dangle more - like 36" - I know that is more $ though but I think it would make the difference in me buying it or not.

I think it's really tastefully done and the patina on the pine one makes it a bit different. Love it!
Hanna
Aww I love this! I love the little details on the chain. I can already think of people I would gift this too, like my roommate who loves hiking (and being girly)!

I think it's lovely but a little too bleh...a trio of dangling acorns would give this movement and more interest...or maybe some other seed charms...all could be cast from real seeds, too. Matching earrings?

It looks like an old penny, like copper that gets the blue tarnish on it.
Debbie
Very unique with the dipped blue edges. So natural and feminine. Love it!

The chain doesn't seem to be attached symmetrically to the pine cone.

Love it. My kids have always been drawn to pinecones and picking them up. Would be a lovely little token to remind me of their younger years.

I might buy this for a gift for a friend I know who'd like the color, just not my particular style for myself.

Just love these designs straight from nature!

Love this - and would buy it. I think it could be on a longer chain (maybe adjustable to 20" - thinking turtlenecks/cool weather). Like the chain-kinda rustic/natural/outdoorsy.

Love the necklace just as it is. Pretty simple and charming.

better without the blue. Plain silver would be "purer," more in keeping with the pinecone.

Not understanding the blue. I believe a longer chain would work better with this type of pendant.

The blue is different, making it wearable throughout the year, as well as for the Christmas holidays.

It doesn't measure up to your other products. It looks like it's been thrown together, without much thought, just to be making something.

I love when I see things that would make a perfect gift for someone. This would be perfect for my step mother but, how much would you price it for?
Jacqueline
Vote: Thumbs down!
I agree with the comment about the chain. It really overpowers the teensy pinecone pendant. With a smaller, more "delicate" chain, it would look more appealing. I do think it's a lovely idea, though.

I love the pinecone design in jewelry. This is just beautiful and the blue is great as white would have been a bit Christmas-like.
Kathy

I do not care for the chain with this necklace at all. It is very cheap in appearance compared to the pinecone.
Elizabeth
Vote: Thumbs up!
This is beautiful, and looks so real! Where I grew up, pinecones developed a patina, giving them a blueish tinge, just like this. It makes me happy.

I LOVE this! I do wish the chain was longer and it would be nice if it was offered in a white as well for the winter season, but I would buy this in blue and white. I seriously love pinecones!

I am not fond of the blue paint. I like the pinecone, but the paint looks like something my 5 year old niece would have done.
Carrie
Vote: Thumbs down!
This looks like it would be uncomfortable.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Just to clarify--this necklace is not made from an actual pine cone. It is cast from a real pine cone, but the pendant itself is made of brass. The blue is a patina on the brass, which is sealed with a clear sealant to prevent it from rubbing off.
Kathleen

From the "land of the long-leaf pine," I love to wear and give symbols--and the pinecone speaks volumes--especially to me. If for no other reason, this gets a thumbs-up from me!

The Chain is too short for the bulk of the pine cone and is too busy to display the pine cone. And blue on a pine cone just isn't natural.
