Windblown Art

Create a peaceful respite indoors or out with this Calder-inspired copper mobile by artist Jay Jones. Inspired by the tree-lined streets of Greensboro, North Carolina, Jones used real Ginkgo-leaves as a cast for his mobile. Each copper leaf is hand-pounded and torched at the edges to bring out the metal's natural reds, oranges, and lavenders. The leaves are hung delicately to spin at the slightest hint of breeze, and the polished copper finish bounces light around the room. Handmade in North Carolina.

Learning by observing. I am not a formally trained artist, but having an equal mixture of mechanical aptitude and artistic sense. I observed and educated myself.

As a designer and builder for more than thirty five years and creating thousands of works, I only now feel that I'm beginning to understand the material. My work is in private collections around the world and was selected to be auctioned in New York at Christie's to benefit the National Design Museum.

I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to work with some amazing artists in New York such as Robert Rauschenberg as well as others. You never know where inspiration will come from, so I'll keep observing and creating. collection
