Get Your Black Belt In Embroidery

Cinch this statement piece around dresses and jeans to bring rich texture and brilliant color to any outfit. A product of fair trade artisans in Peru, each belt is hand woven with curly wool thread, producing textures that are more varied and tactile than traditional embroidery.
A simple, weathered buckle made from a cocktail of zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper is sealed with a rust-proof silver patina. Designed by Jenny Krauss.

Due to the handmade nature, each belt will vary.

Jenny Krauss

Here's the thing about Jenny Krauss' company: it's not about her. Jenny began making baby and home gifts 20 years ago, but has spent the last 10 years providing work for Bolivian and Peruvian artisans, often women with exceptional skills and few options for work.

"The women are often the sole support for their families and the work they do for me has not only helped them financially, but psychologically as well. They speak to me about lack of opportunity and how meaningful it is to create something they can sell. It's a joy to visit them and see changes in their lives."

When she started her company in 1999, Jenny didn't know a thing about business. She had studied art and design. "I didn't have a big plan for my life, but I'm happy that things turned out the way they did. I always knew I'd be involved with creativity and beautiful things.

These days Jenny lives in New York and enjoys designing new products and visiting artisans. "Office work is a drag." She travels to Bolivia and Peru to meet with Fair Trade artisans and to provide them with new projects. "It's important to give and empower those less fortunate. Most people don't have a lot of opportunity to better their lives, so it feels good to be able to contribute something empowering and sustainable."
